Watery stool

So my cham has been having issues with her stool and went to get it tested and has parasites, it had no form and stunk so I kinda knew, but she’s been on her medication and it now has form back too it and don’t stink but is really watery? She has been drinking a lot recently tho but idk if it’s anything too be concerned about she’s not completely done with her medication either

Hey there what parasite did they find that they are treating for?

They didn’t really say, all they told me was that there was alot of flagellates and they gave us metronidazole too treat her with 5 days on 14 off then 5 more days of treatment

So you have to know what parasite it was to ensure proper cleaning of the cage. Certain parasite you have to clean extremely thoroughly. Most parasites you have to strip the cage and clean because they can recontaminate themselves by eating or drinking off branches that had fecal matter which could have oocycts (parasite eggs). Call and find out what parasite was found.

Then you go through a quarantine period after treatment had you need to do multiple fecals spaced out a few weeks to ensure the parasites have been eradicated from the system.

Are you fogging at night?

We’ve been cleaning out the bottom of the cage each time but I didn’t come too think about the branches being contaminated, I usually fog at night but haven’t been fogging recently, was actually cleaning the fogger and the tubes just incase it had anything too do with it

Yeah so call the vet and find out the exact type of parasite that was found so I can help you with proper cleaning of the cage. Essentially as of right now you are treating in an environment where the cham can easily re infect itself and then the cycle repeats. :(

While there is a bit of excess moisture it is not something I would be totally concerned with as the fecal has form and so does the urate.

Post a pic of the entire cage for me please so I can see what your working with.

Did you get any of the photos I’ve uploaded?

Ok so let me know as soon as you get an answer about the type of parasite. With you having all reach branches those may all have to come out and tossed along with the plants. THen you buy flukers fake vines as a temp solution. These can be cleaned easier.

Question on your t5HO. What bulb strength is it? What is your total distance top of cage to the fixture and then screen to the branch?

May I see a few pics of your girl? I see you do not have a lay bin in the cage yet so I want to look at her overall condition.

Okay so the bulb is an Arcadia D3 6% and from the top of the cage screen too the fixture is 4 1/2” and then from the top of the screen too the basking branch is 4” almost 4 1/2

And I do have a lay bin for her, I just put it in when it’s roughly her time too lay and she’s laid a clutch every time no problem, I just don’t like the sand too get over saturated and smelly while it’s in there from lay too lay

Ok this is good but you would not want it to be any farther away then this. And just make sure that the branches below the UVB do not have any plants blocking them. This will reduce and block the UVI exposure she can get.
Here’s my girly, Dart
She looks healthy which is really good.

Be very cautious with this. It is becoming a universal recommendation to have a lay bin as a permanent fixture of a females enclosure. You can drill tiny holes in the bottom of the bin so it is able to drain. But you want to ensure that they are able to when needed or they can become egg bound. While being treated of course you would have this removed and a bare bottom.

Sounds good, could you possibly give me step by step instructions too clean and quarantine? I’m waiting on a response from the vet too see what parasite but I have a feeling there not going too know. And I recently just bought these two pothos plants but she did poop today, should you get new ones? What’s your thoughts, thank you for your time by the way

If they sent the fecal out the test results would come back with the exact type. The issue is there is one that requires stripping everything from the cage and a very different stronger cleaning method for the cage. So I do not want to have to take on more work then is necessary. Pinworms for example are much easier to clean for. You can pull the plants wash the leaves really well and the oocysts wash away. The branches same thing. You could just take the entire cage outside or into a shower and spray the heck out of it then wash out the bottom really well. The other worse parasites are an entirely different process that would require throwing away all porous items such as plants and all the branches. THen a very specific cleaning process.

I’m pretty sure they tested the fecal at the vet and didn’t send it out, but when I get the cage all stripped down and cleaned, just use the fake, easy too clean vines till treatment is done?

Another thing I wanted too tell you was that a few weeks back she coughed up a roach or vomited up, then she was hanging by her tail with her mouth open so I thought she was choking so I took her too the vet there was nothing in her throat so they ended up doing her blood work and gave her fluids,,they only got enough blood for the blood count test not the chemistry, and they also put her on a antibiotic injection, (ceftazidime/ Fortaz) the day we took her too the vet she was going downhill real fast but they gave her the first dose of the antibiotic that day. We get home and she can’t even hold herself on the branch and I was 100% it was her last day, she had seizures where she was curling up and twisting around it was the worst thing I’ve ever seen in person it was so sad Caz I thought she was dying and she had atleast 5 seizures thru the night, woke up the next day she was hanging from her lay bin, just her eyes were moving I had no clue what was going on, I picked her up, put her in her basking spot and she has been great since, she’s on day 8/9 of injections tomorrow. They also gave me calcium glubionate to give her everyday for 30 days.
