Weighing your Cham.

I have a young Veil, who is about 3 months old. I've heard that a good habit to have is weighing your chameleon. I have two inquiries:

1. How often should I weigh him? Once weekly? Twice? Once a month?

2. What kind of progress should i be looking for? A certain %? A certain # of grams?

Thank you

I have a small digital postage scale that i use. I put a Tupperware container on the scale and then put him in the container. I have to get the reading quick because he is fast moving. As far as how often? It's completely up to you. I like to weigh mine once a week but that's because i have an interest in tracking his growth.

I'm going to be using my kitchen scale which measures to the gram. I'll probably go with a weekly schedule. Maybe right before lunchtime

I used to weigh mine once per week. It really is a good way to track their growth (you can see some graphs in my blog entries). It's also a good way to monitor their health as adults. Sometimes a drop in weight is an early indicator that something is not quite right. This happened with my Jackson's chameleon that my vet diagnosed with MBD. By catching it early he was able to make a full recovery.

As far as how often, I would say once per week is good for monitoring growth. Then as adults, perhaps every other week or once per month is enough.

To do the weighing I glued a stick across top of a plastic container with hot glue so they have something to sit on, then snapped a quick picture making sure I can read the weight (the container was of course tared out first). Then I could record the weights later.

Great idea on glueing the stick. I will be all over it.
