Hi, this is my first chameleon, Maggie. She is a veiled chameleon, but I don’t know how old she is (other than young!) can anyone tell me? Also, the pet shop thought she was female... just wondering if anyone can confirm?

I will try to get one... however she runs for cover as soon as I approach the cageTo know the gender we will need pictures of the back of the back feet.
I dont see any spurs, but to be sure I'll share one of my male and you can compare. You can see on the back of his back foot he has a spur. It almost looks like a toe!Ok managed to get some pics... not great as she was pretty speedy
Yes I see it! She definitely doesn’t have them... thanks for your help!!!I dont see any spurs, but to be sure I'll share one of my male and you can compare. You can see on the back of his back foot he has a spur. It almost looks like a toe!

if done correctly then yes. Thanks everyone... the plan is to go bioactive shortly... so she should lay there right?
Hope you don’t mind me asking... but why are they not recommended?if done correctly then yes.
Also in your first photo i see a hammock those aren't recommended i would get rid if it. Just sticks and live plants is the best option.
Because theyre not made for chameleons, their claws can get caught in the fibres too and its not really a natural replica of their real environment. When designing their cage, try to think what a jungle is like and try to replicate it. Lots of horizontal and diagonal sticks and vines are good and live plants are even betterHope you don’t mind me asking... but why are they not recommended?
Ok thanks, that’s a good point. I have 5 real plants in there right now... all chameleon safe. I was reluctant to get artificial but needed them on the short term for more cover... will be replacing as soon as I can.Because theyre not made for chameleons, their claws can get caught in the fibres too and its not really a natural replica of their real environment.
