I have noticed that when my chameleon is basking he is usally a dark color kinds like a brown, when he eats he is a really pretty green. And when he sleeps he looks light lime green. The only thing that bothers me is when he is basking he turns pretty much brown, is this normal

What is the wattage of the heat bulb?
If the wattage is low, he may turn darker to absorb more heat.

he turns dark when basking because dark colors attract heat...he is normal when feeding because hes excited or just in a chilled out mood...those should be is Normal colors......then he is colorful when he sleeps because he has relaxed the cells in his body and they put out their relaxed colrs...the best colors a cham gets is when hes on a female looking in the mirror or asleep.

wattaged doesnt matter ...we just need the temp about an inch or two above the basking branch/vine.
