This is Gumby and Pokey... anyone have experience with breeding fuelleborni? Chris? Benny? Brad? Todd? Fabien?

Gumby I was told was a LTC and an experienced woman, and I think poor Pokey has been a monk all his life. Gumby was all for it in the begining but then she cooled her heels and is waiting for Pokey to do his thing, but nothing is happening.... :(

You missed the persons name that could probably help the most with this and other live bearing species!!!!!:p Give Trace a shout!!!

Thanks J'Dawg! ;)

I have not bred the T. fuelleborni but have the T. werneri with regularity. If the fuellies are the same they will only breed once a year usually in the late winter/early spring. They do need annual seasonal cues of wet/humid and hot/periods to get them to cycle so this is perhaps why you aren't seeing any mating behaviours at this time. I had better results by isolating the individuals for a few months leading up to the breeding season although this wasn't as crucial with the werneri as with other related species. Females give off obvious signals when they are finally receptive. Gestation is 7-10 months.

If you want to be successful, I'd separate the pair, start gradually increasing humidity and watering until very late January or preferably mid February and re-introduce. There is a marked rainy season in southern Tanzania from November to April and it is prudent to mimic this; particularly for the WC animals.

Good luck. The world needs more CB T. fuelleborni.

Trace, I did a little quick digging because I was curious. When looking up Poroto Mountain weather:rolleyes: I found a City named Mbeya which is North-West of the Poroto Mountains. P.M. is a "stub" on Wikipedia but in the cities profile it says....

"The general range of temperature is between -6°C in the highlands and 29°C on the lowlands. Mbeya's cooler climate can be deceptive in terms of sun exposure - sun screen lotion is recommended when hiking, even in what seems to be overcast weather. The weather from June until October, is dry and cold. The best weather is from December to February, although the heaviest rainfall occurs during the months December to March - it is somewhat warm (relatively speaking).

The area around Mbeya town(especially in Tukuyu) enjoys abundant and reliable rainfall which stimulates abundant agriculture on the rich volcanic soils. Average rainfall per year is around 900mm. The rainy season is from March to May. It is cool in Mbeya much of the time. Sometimes visitors will need warm clothing, such as a sweater or hat, to keep warm.

Because it is in the Southern Hemisphere, winter is June-Oct while summer is from Dec-Feb."

Hopefully this helps a bit:eek:

Thanks Trace.

We will try again in Jan or Feb. I was real hopeful since Gumby made a bee line for Pokey then stopped. I thought their colors were happy ones.

I also have an F1 pair of fuelleborni I hope to breed in the future. Have you experience with tempeli too?

No experiance just luck but...

I didn't do anything fancy but my meru's and fuelleborni (also F1) bred a few days ago. I woke up one morning and the meru female got out of her cage. I put her back in and hte male went nuts. Must have sent out some pheramones cuz I cought the fuelleborni locked a short time after.

Good Times!

You know, I don't know you but I am begining to dislike you...First you post photos that are really cool, then you post about babies popping out all over the place, THEN you have the nerve to post about "oh, I just threw two hard to breed in captivity chameleons together one day and they started humping like rabbits....hah ahh ahha"

:p just joking, Julie told me ALL about you and the others while at the Puyallup show.

I really have no idea. He looks interested to me. I didn't even think to pay attention to the colors when I saw mine. I just bolted so they didn't see me. I was so excited I didn't want to interrupt.
