What is in your medicine cabinet???

I have been asked a few times what meds are good to have on hand, so I thought I would share. Lets see what's in your cabinet.

Here we have the standard supps and then from left to right, Povidone which is an Iodine solution used to clean mouths and whatnot, next is Zylafen for any open would...scratches...burns...whatever, next is the Panacur used to deworm, then there is Terramycin which is used for slight eye infections. Also in the refridgerator is my Fortaz which I use for any major eye infection or any other infection and Flagyl used to fight parasites.

That is pretty standard stuff for me, what's in yours?

Where would you go about getting all of this stuff? and what are typical doses?

Flamazine cream, betadine, liquid calcium, k-y jelly, various sizes of syringes, q-tips, cotton balls, latex gloves, kitchen spatula, tweezers, one of those little mirrors on a rod that the dentists use to look in your mouth, cat catheter...I need to go down to look to tell you if I missed anything.

I also have the supplements for the insects.

What are the uses for all of that. SOme are obvious, but what about the kitchen spatula, or the mirror?

Thanks

Well Povidone is at Wallgreens or CVS and I gently apply it once a day with a Q-tip to the infected area. The Zylafen I got from my vet as well as the Panacur, Flagyl and Fortaz. The Zylafen apply twice a day. The Panacur and Flagyl can be used together, alternate every two days between Panacur and Flagyl for 3 doses of each. So a 16 day process. The doses depend on the size of the animal. The Terramycin, one drop two times a day. The Fortaz also dosage and the frequency depends on the size and condition of the animal.

The spatula is good for getting a mouth open without hurting the chameleon. You need to make sure its one of the good spatulas (like rubbermaid) so that its flexible.

The mirror is small and angled so you can see in the chameleon's upper mouth easier.

The cat catheter is a thin tube...good for putting on the end of a big syringe to flush out wounds, etc.

The k-y jelly will keep a prolapse moist until you get the chameleon to a vet, etc.

Flamazine is a great cream..works on burns, many fungal infections and bacteria. Its not supposed to hurt the chameleon if it gets into its mouth or eyes...although I don't know if it is actually ever used for eyes...so you would need to check with a vet about that. (Maybe Dr. Wheeler can tell us??)
You will need a prescription to get it...and it has a shelf life.

Any I missed?
