Yep, it is some kind of hawk moth. Just look up hawk moths in Ohio. You should be able to find a picture.

It's not a white lined sphinx. I'm sure of that, they have very distinct lines on their wings.

Hawk moth, sphinx moth, and hummingbird moth are all just common names for moths in the family sphingidae.

They are kind of hard to sex. You can tell by their antennae. I'm sure the larva would be safe to feed as long as the food you feed the larva is safe. They might eat hornworm food but there is no guarantee.

I feed my hornworm moths to my chameleons but they are raised in captivity. From what I have read on other post, it should be safe to feed.

Cheryl send a message to Steve Sims, he feeds lots of those big moths to his parsons.

 who is he on here ?? if its safe to feed, and a boy- Max will be a HAPPY boy today- he is the only one big enough to eat it - but I am sure Olive would try :p

The only food source for this moth is the Catalpa tree in the wild.

Carl

so it will not survive then - I have no idea what tree that is around here - there are THOUSANDS of tress and woods in this area  so I would not know what to feed it - it is ok to feed to Max ?
