what kind of water do you use for misting and drippers?

i was using filtered tap water but theres some limescale residue on the plant leaves, do people use bottled water? do you treat the water with any conditioners?

thanks

I have a reverse osmosis water station down the street and i fill up old milk jugs for it so i'm sure any kind of bottled water should be fine

I'm sure answers will vary depending on where people live and the quality of their local tap water.

The tap water where I live is good, soft water fairly low in minerals and doesnt need heavy treatment (the reservoir lake is clean and away from the city). Its plenty good enough for me to drink, so it's good enough for my chameleons. Still, in summer I do usually filter (charcoal britta type) and leave out for 24 hours, to let any residual chlorine dissipate. I also use/add any left over boiled water from my kettle that I didnt use for my own tea in the morning, to warm their morning water ever so slightly above room temperature. That's for the drippers, which is the bulk of the water taken in by my chams.

For the misting, I use straight hot tap water, no filtering, no special treatment whatsoever. Time (especially in terms of heating the water) is the overriding factor here for me.

i stopped using tap water since they started adding flouride to it, heard flouride can kill.....so $1.50 for 5 gallons(3weeks worth) is not to pricey for me.

If you still think your water is too hard with minerals just boil a huge pot.

it costs more money to boil water than to buy it.... 1.50 for 5 gallons or using a 600w coil that burns mad power, and a/c for cooling the house from steam...

Luckily for me, the drinking water in Greater Victoria is very soft. It contains very low amounts of calcium and magnesium salts and does not, as in other cities that have much harder water, produce any buildup of lime inside kettles, hot water tanks or household plumbing. The water local to me needs very little treatment (just small amounts of chlorine and ammonia are used as part of the treatment process). My local CRD Water Services does not add fluoride; however, Very low levels of fluoride are naturally present in my water; it comes from the geological formations in the watershed - about 0.010 milligrams per litre. This is well under the 1500 micrograms per litre that is considered entirely safe. If the amount your water service is adding is below this lever, I doubt it is going to hurt you or your chameleons. That said, I'm no water or biology expert.

Our reservoir is fed by a pristine, protected watershed, which means our water supply is naturally clean and clear, and needs little treatment.

very nice, sounds like your set.

I would be interested to see pics of anyones setup who has an RO sytem connected to their Misting Reservoirs... Anyone?

ok thanks guys, i obviously just have very hard tap water!

Jut wanted to point out that hard water isn't bad for you or your chameleons.
And a lot of the minerals in tap water are beneficial.
Chlorine and Fluoride are more problematic, but in our case low quantities of both haven't caused any problems so far.

We have water filters here in the US you can put right on the tap made by PUR company...i dont know what they remove...google them and find out.
