What should I do?

Good Day everyone,

I started a thread in the health clinic under "I need help fast" after all the very helpful advice I think that my female Jackson Chameleon (Cain) just might be pregant. Now starts my worring for other reasons.

These Chameleons are my first ones for me and I am new to the Chameleon world.

Now that she might be pregant and ready to have them....I have a ton of questions.

Do Jackson Chameleons have live births or do they lay eggs?

How do I get ready for the babies?

What should I expect?

Please help.....very uncertain of what to do.

Jackson's do give birth to live babies.
Make sure you have a supplier of fruit flies line up in advance. It wouldn't hurt to start your own cultures. I just learned this lesson the tough way when I found 10 baby veileds yesterday!
Get an enclosure ready for the little buggers!
Enjoy! They are truly amazing as babies!

Yes they have live births and they will just drop them from little sacks from the branches. they need to be removed from the cage then cause the mother can eat them from what I understand. You have to have another cage or set up for the babies. you are gonna need pinhead crickets and fruit flies for them to eat. you will need a uvb light. There are others that will chime in here and give you more info I am sure..

So what do I do for Cain, she is just laying on the floor of her cage not doing anything. When she does move, she drags her back legs and bottom half. Is this a sign that she is getting ready?

Do I just leave her alone or do I need to set something up for her to have the babies?

are you 100% sure she is pregnant and there is not something else going on?. To my knowledge they give birth sitting on a branch of vine and drop the babies. Maybe I am wrong. Hopefully some Jackson owners will respond here for you. I do not want to lead you in the wrong direction.

Well last Saturday she was laying on the floor of her cage and not moving. I got to the vet right away and the said that he felt a mass in her belly and that she could be pregnant. He was not 100% tho. She has not had a bowel movement at all. I got on here last night and posted pictures and everyone in the health clinic forum seems to think that she is pregnant. So I guess to answer your question, no I'm not 100% sure that she is pregnant. I thought that she was constipated and was trying to find something to help her. I have tried the mineral oil last nite and did not help.

I just don't know what to do......

sometimes if they become impacted it can effect their back legs. Can she use her back legs?

Yes and no when I take her out to soak her......she will grip and pull herself on my hand.

When she is soaking she will move then trying to pull herself out. when I put her back in her cage she will go back to the bottom of her cage and drag her back leggs.

there was no way from the xray the vet could tell if they were babies then? I mean how big was the mass? Did you see it? or he did not do an xray and just felt?

No the vet did not do xrays, he just felt the mass. Here are a couple pictures so you can see what I'm talking about. If you can tell.

I just got her out to soak her and I noticed her vent seems swollen.
