Hi !

I finally moved in Montreal and I would like to get finally a cham again!

I wanted to take a male veiled, but actually can't find any in the petstores or so.

I now have the choice between a male baby (~ 3months, 200$) panther blue bars or an adult Chameleo Chameleon captured in north africa (150$).

I previously (long time ago, when I was still a kid and didnt know what a UV lamp was) had a Chameleo ( Caméléon Commun ), and I liked it. Nice various range of colours, maybe more various than panthers.

Panther needs about 80 to 85° and moisture at 60%, right? What about Chameleo Chameleons?

What do you guys advice me ?

(ps : for canadian hearing my call.... anyone could sell me a start up colony of Dubia roaches?)

Assuming it is captive born, I would definitely go with the baby panther - CB animals are much better to deal with, especially if you have not kept chams in a long time

Yeah the panther is Captive born. Should make it easier.... but I m still hesitating !

(for info the previous Chameleo I had was pbly wild captured. I bought it as baby on a marroco market.

How to determine the sexe on the Chameleo ? Any info on temp and humidity ?

Always go for captive bred animals, you run the risk of getting a cham loaded with parasites or whatnot. In Canada there are breeders (our site sponsors on the top right) that always carry panther and veileds as well, and they are of excellent quality. You may want to see their websites first to see if they have something you like.

the males have spurs or little bumps on the back of their back heels. The panthers is it sometimes difficult to tell. You have to try and sex them from their vent(butt). You can sex them later by their adult colors but it is sometimes difficult when they are young.

Chamaeleo chamaeleon can be kept a lot like the panthers but you need to brumate/hibernate them in the winter if you want to breed them. You will never find one in Canada CB and it would even be difficult to get a WC in Canada now.

Veileds (chamaeleo calyptratus) is available CB as the panther is.

Can Chamaeleo chamaeleon also be sexed by the "spur" of the males like you would with chamaeleo calyptratus??

Oki, I guess I ll go for the Panthers from local breeder. Male of 3months for 180.

Poor C . chamelon, I hope someone will take it !

Found some veiled too, but they just have the translucids ones for 350$. Kinda special.

So Archaleon you're saying that there is a C. chamaeleon in Montreal??

If I was there I would take it if it was in good condition!

Yeah it is totally your choice. If you have a fondness for C. chamaelon then go for it!

Being new to the country (Bienvenue!) I thought you may want to know of some of the local breeders and the selection you have.
