Let's discuss a few things. I just wanted to make an opinion thread after reading: the how many crickets per month poll. It was interesting & fun, however, it wasn't able to gives us the details some of us might be curious about. This might give someone(s) that 'I never thought of that' or 'I didn't know that' response, I am trying to invoke. It goes to show, even while I was just feeding my chams, we still get curious on how to improve their care?
1) what time, if any set time, do you feed your cham(s)?
2) do you feed a certain species first, or just go down the row of cages?
3) how long does it take for you to feed your cham(s)?
4) what insects do you feed & what do you feed your insects?
5) what supplements & brand(s) are you using, per species? how often?
my answers (as if anyone cared)
1) 7am & afternoon [babies are fed all day]
2) I tend to go down the rows or feed what I have in my hand, as needed
3) 1 - 2 hrs. [will do some maintenance as I go, if needed]
4) small crickets [avoiding full size now, in hopes of preventing future
health issues: i.e. impaction or mouth problems], silkworms, mantis,
hornedworms, bumblebees, superworms, roaches, waxworm,
mealworm, butterflies, grasshoppers, fruit flies, house flies.
"If it flies, it dies. If it crawls, it falls" [we've all heard it]
5) Repashy Bug Burger, Fluker's High Calcium Cricket Diet, oranges, apples,
mustard/turnip/dandelion greens, uncooked oats, bran, bee pollen,
honey, powdered milk, spirulina, hibiscus [from live plants], wheat germ,
carrots, brewers yeast,, sweet potato, blueberries, etc...
6) supplements depend on the species and sex. Females that are gravid,
will get more. Veils and Panther are fed a little more than Jacksons.
I stick with the usual: Ca (x3 weekly), Vit A (as needed), D3 (depends
on their outdoor time), & Multivitamin (x2 monthly). For D3, if temps
permit, my chams are outside. I setup replicas of the cages they are in
outside on my deck. I use a HD cam to monitor them from inside, for
over heating, predators, thieves, etc...
2.2 Blue Bar, 1.1 Nosy Be, 1.3 Jax, 1.3 Veil [babies & rescues not included]
