They are nice at first because they clean up the dead... But apparently they also like the not so dead waxworm pupae.
I ended up with a whole lot of beetles and no waxworms.
If you don't have a good colony that produces a lot of dead yes they will eat your living animals. It'ss why I generally don't use them in my colonies. I use a combo of less harmful other beetles.
