Why are dubia roaches so expensive?

You watch an episode of hoarders and the kitchen is covered with roaches. LOL I guess these are the German cockroach. Superworms, mealworms and crickets are cheap. The dubia roach is like steak but I can assume they can be captive bred.

Maybe $20

that was in 2012, my most expensive order. Least expensive order was local pickup 500 for $20 for 1/2-3/4"

I bought my starter colony of around 25 females 10 males from dubiaroaches.com late 2018 which cost around $35 + S&H. I now have more than I know what to do with because my panther only eats them if I starve him for a 3-4 days. When I decided to start the colony, he would wake up in the morning and do target practice on them until the cup was empty so I figured why not start a colony.

There is/was someone in the food classifieds selling them for ~$20/pound, including adults.

I bought hissers from that same person, they don't regularly sell them as far as I know. Once in a while they just sell a bunch off.

Breed your own feeders. Once your dubias and superworms take off you’ll have more than you know what to do with. Saves you hundreds. Now if you every master Hornworm breeding please lmk, that’s a challenge.
