Why do Chameleons splash?

Hello there! I have a veiled chameleon named Rocky. Whenever I take him to the bathroom sink, he likes to splash the water and its very funny. I was wondering why chameleons do that.

Chameleons should NEVER take baths. If you think your chameleon is dehydrated and want them to drink, please use the shower method where you place them on a plant and run warmish (not hot, not even toasty) water against the wall so that all that hits your chameleon is a fine mist. This will likely stimulate drinking, and you may leave them there fully supervised for up to 45 mins. This is also the method used to help with stuck shed. Please never bathe your chameleon again, it causes nothing but stress to your lizard.

Yeah, we have to remember that our emotions and feelings are not the same as our chameleons. We have to try to see things the way they do, not humanize them. Imagine you are usually in a tree protecting your territory and suddenly you are placed in a large bowl with nothing to grab onto and no way out. Lots of stress.

We breed and sell Chameleons and spend a considerable amount ot time educating and supporting the adoption. This group is always referenced as an oppotunity for those families to gain additional knowledge and advice. SamDoes was probably not educated by the seller and this group has stepped up to the plate.
Everyone - Thanks for maintaining this site. All of my babies thank you as well.

Guys, I do not bathe him in the sink. Of course I use a shower method. Im not that cruel. I was just wondering because everyime he sees me, he wants me to handle him. Of course when Im handling him I go to the bathroom but I do not put him in the sink. He just sees the sink and starts splashing.

If you're referring to how they LOVE to try to climb up water streams, I understand! My male usually hangs out on my shoulder before he goes to bed, and whenever I'm doing the dishes he tries to climb up the water stream. Chams seem to love shiny objects, and for some reason they think they can climb up water every time.

Ah, you misunderstand. My guy sits on my head while I do the dishes. When I turn on the water, he darts down my arm to try and climb up it.

In addition to that, my guy tries to bite quarters and tin foil. I have to make sure there's nothing shiny when I let him come inside with me, otherwise he tries to eat it.
