why do chameleons squeal?

my baby chameleon squeals! i have heard him do it before and this morning he squealed quite a few times! i have had him for a month, i'm sure he was very young when i got him so he wouldn't be more than 2 months old!

i have a veiled chameleon and yes it's definitely a squeal! not a loud squeal but it is a high pitched sound.

he doesn't do it often but next time he does i will try and catch it! i have't worked out how to upload a video yet but i will try

i can't believe i'm the only person with a squealing chameleon come on isn't there anyone else who has one? he lifts his head up (as if he's digesting )opens his mouth and lets out an itty bitty squeal!

Sounds like your cham might have a respiratory infection, especially if he's holding his head up with his mouth open to breathe. Is there a lot of mucous in the mouth? It's probably not a good thing that you seem to have the only chameleon that squeals. Posting some pics may help us and also filling out the 'How to ask for help' form in the Health section, giving us all the details of the cham and it's set up. Hope the l'il guy is ok.

like i said before, he doesn't do it often. the last time i heard it was about a week ago. he's not givingme the impression that he is sick . he has an excellent appetite! he only lifts his head up like that after he's eaten a cricket. he looks like he's trying to digest it.

Maybe the crickets are a little too big for him? Remember not to feed anything larger in width than the gap between his eyes. The sound, is it more like a short, sharp 'PFFT!' sound? If so then they do that when they are annoyed with us! Did he make the noise when you were doing something to his viv or holding him?

With babies I allow them to eat all that they want in a couple of minutes two to three times a day. Any crickets that he doesn't eat should be removed from the cage or they can eat on your cham at night.

i know it's way late

but if anybody is reading this now looking for answers...
I'm no expert, but we now have a two month old veiled. the squeal or squeak that they are making is the equivalent of a hiss. But when they are young it comes out with a high pitched squeak.
similar to a kitten: it's trying to meow but the sound that comes out is called a mew. it will change as they age.
sorry i wasn't here years ago!
