Why would a female dig,put butt in, bury, but not be gravid?

My female veiled that displayed all the gravid behaviors, was not gravid. She stopped eating,( we think because of pain of a broken leg, we just found out), but she was trying to get out of her cage, starting digging in her cage bucket, so i put her in the trash can, at least 4 x where she would dig, put her butt in for hours, then sometimes cover up the hole, and climb on the limb to bask. Any ideas? I did recently show her to a male because at first i thought that is what she was looking for, but figured she wasn't old enough to mate yet . Would that have been enough for her to continue to dry to dig and lay like she was laying eggs? I am very confused with her behavior. Any body else come across this?

The only times I have seen or heard of a female veiled chameleon filling in a hole or sitting bum-down in a hole is when its eggbound.
