I live in Boulder Colorado and its starting to get cold should i buy a infrared night lught for my little guy?

Hi! An red light could interfere with his sleep. If night time heat is needed most people use a ceramic heat emitter to create a warmer spot in the enclosure :)

No. If your temps drop below 50 a ceramic heat emitter will do. Infrared lights could upset sleeping patterns.

Will a regular heater that you put in your room work? I can point it at the cage . It has a motor it isnt a coil heater.

If you can warn up the room that would be fine, but you don't want to be blowing hot dry air into the enclosure while the chams sleeping.

Well its starting to get down to the 60's at night outside and we turn off our A/C. I opened up my window and stuck a fan in it and it blowed outside air in and I thought he wouldnt mind because it only got down to like 65, but the next day when i brought the room temps back up with the heater he didnt seem right. It was the first time having the temps down that low and he's about 8 months old.

Could it of just been because it was the first time? They're normally at 71 or so in the morning, and the fan wasn't blowing in his cage at all.

You don't want to do that, to much hot air blowing on the cham while sleeping will not be a healthy move. Use a ceramic heat emitter like suggested. I live in so cal so I am a ways away from worrying about temp drops, my chams are outside enjoying night air as I type.

You are making me soo jealous. We have had a very poor summer however it is lovely today. A grand 19 degrees. Popeye outside shivering. LOL

Good thread as like in Colorado it gets pretty cold up here too, but a question one of you might be able to answer,,,along the same lines, is, during the winter months should cage lighting be adjusted to the shorter daylight that we experience???
I notice my guy getting into sleeping positions about an hour earlier lately!!

Good question. Personally I keep mine the same. 12 hrs on12 hrs off. I think mine does ok on that. I've heard others change there lighting according to daylight hrs. At the moment we are on British summer time and next month our clocks go back an hour. I won't change the timer at all.:)

I live in Montana, but north of people like Hoj.:) I can get to -30 sometimes. I have tried a couple things. My home never gets below 65F at night. I let my chams drop to what I am comfortable with. If I need more heat I use a space heater in the room but point it away from the cages. A heat emitter for each cage would be a pain.

I have tried to keep the light on a 12 hour cycle but since there are 3 windows in with them, they follow the light out side. I keep them in sync with the light they see so the are not trying to sleep with me having lights on them.If anyone has questions shoot me a pm.

Lots of other people do things different but it works for them. This is what works for me.
