Wood frame. Good idea?

So I've been planning my chameleon cage, and in all honesty, I really want to try a DIY.
I was wondering if a wood frame was a good idea, and if so were there any drawbacks?
I'm worried about mold growth, but would that really be an issue?
If so is there a lacquer that is safe to use with Chameleons?

Thanks so much for you time!

I used regular stain and poly on pine for one and oak for another to construct my cages. I sanded after each coat of poly and it aired out for weeks before my chameleon went near it. Never had any problems.. I'm not sure what the alternative would be, as if you don't treat the wood it won't last long with the misters.

you would def need to seal the wood with something. when i first joined to forum and was researching build threads alot of people used the waterbased minwax polyurethan. i could not find the waterbased one for the life of me in canada so settled for varathan diamond wood finish. i used poplar as my wood and took a more expensive route building mine, below is my thread for my enclosure.

My cages are woodframe (painted). some are a decade+ old. No mold.
