worm pods.....

i got a hornworm and a silkworm pod from coastalsilkworms.com.
both arrived no problem but i'm confused about a couple of things..

1) do you place/store them with the lid down? if so, then how do the worms/pods get any ventalation?

2) do you peel off the paper that is lining the inside of the pod lid?

Hey Lisa!! Yup, tip containers upside down, so mesh is at the bottom and food is on top. Put something like a pencil/pen underneath to allow for ventilation. They don't have to be propped up much. Open the lid (over garbage can) and gently tip container to empty frass every morning. If you allow frass to build up it will mold and kill your worms. Just pick out what you want to feed. The hornworms grow VERY fast and will practically double in size each day, so you may want to feed them off first. The silks grow much slower. Have fun!!

Also, if you do notice any condensation inside the containers, I take the lid off and tip right side up for a few hours every couple days and it dries out the pod nicely!!

do i need to remove the paper that is on the inside of the lids? it's covering up the holes in the cups plastic lid....

Nope. Im pretty sure its for ventilation and helps the poop not fall out

It's like a cheese cloth mesh to allow for ventilation and like Stefan said, to keep the frass from getting all over!!!

is the poo the little pellets in the container? there are quite a few already. the hornworm ones are kinda tanish and the silkworm ones are black....... dump them out daily???

Yup. Its the poop lol.

I think its very good to dump the waste daily as it will increase the chance of your worms not catching a disease and kill them all
