Worried...Possibly for no Reason...

I have a female veiled that is probably around 6 or 7 months. She eats well and drinks fine (she can drink me under the table). But I just have a few concerns. She's started digging and I've found out that it's so she can lay (unfertile) eggs. I put in a container of dirt, about 2-3 inches deep so she can do what she's gotta do, but she just seems to keep digging. Is this a problem. The other thing I have is with her tank conditions. Yes, I know she shouldn't be in a tank but it's a 35 gal. Hex so it's tall and I'm in the process of building her a screen cage. But my questions are, roughly what should the humidity be in her "enclosure"? I have a ZooMed Mister that goes off every 3 hours for 30 second intervals AND I have a fogger in the bottom of the cage. Not to mention every once in a while I'll manually spray the cage down. After all this she still looks like her skin is too dry and when the mister goes off she rushes to drink the water. Am I doing something wrong? Oh...last thing, I noticed that compared to most pictures I've seen, my female looks fairly drab. Someone help me...

Ok...well you know you shouldn't have her in a glass tank. But, the humidity is definately too high for a veiled chameleon. I would ditch the fogger and the automatic mister and just manually mist her twice a day. Also if she is gravid you need something a lot deeper than 3 inches, I would say more around 10 inches or more. Make a mixture of a 1/2 organic potting soil and 1/2 sand. Put it in her inclosure or fill the bottom of a trash can and put her in it with sticks, plants, and lighting.

Don't let her see you watching her while she is digging or she may abandon the hole. If she does this often enough it can lead to eggbinding. The female may dig a couple of test holes first and then should settle on one which she may dig for a couple of days before she lays the eggs.
