So I've just got my first Cham 5 days ago and I'm hooked! Is it worth getting another?

I'm tempted once I've got the money!

Hi Lala0

It is worth having more than one chameleon. But.... make sure you are 'experienced' enough before you expand your chameleon family. Know the basics of chameleon husbandry like temperatures, watering, feeding, the need to vary their diet and gutloading of the food you feed them, humidity and so on. Also important to give them the space they need.

So...if this is your first chameleon and, and you just got it 5 days ago? I don't think it is wise to start with another one so soon after.

Congrats. Happened to me too. I was hooked the first time I had one. Completely understand your excitement. Yet as a 5 day owner I would wait at least half a year to find out if your personal approach to keeping Chams is successful (and believe me, everybody has a unique approach as every bodies environment is different already). Not to get me wrong. It is great to have more than one. But see first how you (they) do with (them) you over a longer period of time. After all they are more on the fragile side when it comes to pets.

I just have two chameleons and the first one I had about 2 yrs before I just recently got another. I think I am one of the few people on the forum here with a lone chameleon and it was kinda an ongoing joke that I held my ground with only one. Actually the only reason I got another is because a member was giving an older adult panther up and he happened to live 5 minutes from me or I probably still would have one! It was very very tempting though these past few years because there are so many different species and varieties of panthers to choose from. I would hold off for a little while though and make sure chameleon ownership is right for you before you take the plunge again!

I think the vote is going to be unanimous! I love having my new baby, but I agree with the others, you need to wait awhile. Make sure your first is going to live and thrive before getting another. It seems horrible to think about but a lot of people run into trouble early on for many, many reasons. It would be in your best interest emotionally and financially to only have 1 baby to potentially have issues than to have 2. I think getting the 1st one to his first birthday at least should be your focus. Congrats on getting the cham bug! :D

Im going to back up everything everyone else said.

Give you and your new cham some time to settle into a routine before you think about a second one.
While it is very addicting, and I would know, I have 5 chams... with 2 more on the way(and plans for 2-3 others next year), and 38 eggs cooking... it can become alot to keep trach of food schedules, misting schedules. etc.
Especially if you branch out to other species of cham.

I have 3, soon to be 4 species, and each one is specialized in its own way.

Get used to the one you have, and then in a few months, reevaluate and see how you do.

I'm that person who likes advice and doesn't take it. HAHAH! I had my Graceful, Gracie, for a month before I got my veiled, Memphis, and I couldn't be happier. BUT! That was more than 5 days and I've kept a lot of different reptiles so all I was doing was tweeking some stuff around.

I would suggest reading. READ THIS FORUM! When I first got my guys I was on here for HOURS each day. Literally. It didn't matter if I was in class or what, but I was on here just soaking up the info. That's how I decided I wanted a veiled, and I actually got my boy from Chameleons Northwest which is a site sponsor. SO! Just read up. Only do it if you're comfortable, and can afford it. I think that being knowledgeable is the most important. But definitely get into a routine with your first cham before letting the cham bug completely take over your life. HAHA!

I have 3 Veiled, all housed seperatly, i must say my male has a good peronsality thatn the 2 femals:)

Definitely wait. More than just because you need to gain your footing with one, but because you probably just want another one because you are just really excited about having your one. Wait to assess if you want one because you want another individual or because you are just infatuated with the whole chameleon-keeping experience, since it's all so new and exciting.

Just my opinion, anyway.

I defiantly wasnt thinking of getting one soon, but just in the future. All of the response to having more than one have been great, so I better get saving...

It's not a hobby it's an addiction. If you can handle more then one then yes, as well has have the funds to take care of multiple then yes again.

I have 4
