Would It Work ?

The company I work for makes display cases - the kind for eye glasses and bags quite large in some cases- they sometimes have prototypes that they are getting rid of and my husband has a truck- I was thinking of trying to convert one into a living area for a chameleon - I'm not sure if it would even work- I know I would have to have airflow & drainage - and the actual size would determine the chameleon that might go in it- and that it may work better for a bearded dragon or pygmy chameleons - any suggestions ? Is it a unworkable idea ?

Where would the ventilation be at, just the top like a fish tank or are you going to modify that in some way.?

If they are acrylic or similar plastic you could try drilling holes along the bottom a few inches up (think Exo terra,) and then of course be sure the top is very ventilated.

If you could post a picture it would be more helpful however if it has the right dimensions and could be modified anything is possible with a bit of diy. Holes at the bottom for drainage and ventilation is doable..pc fans work great in a non mesh enclosure

I think this is a very workable idea depending on how you modify it. I'm always looking at ready-made display cases and cabinets in the hopes of finding something I could modify into a nice, large, stylish enclosure. If you are able to take the glass panels out and replace with screen it would be ideal. Also, these types of displays usually have lighting built in. This could be a good thing if you can modify or incorporate reptile lighting into it. I'd say think it through before purchasing and evaluate the units on an individual basis. If you can visualize the mods, go for it.

Frankly I'm jealous. Those types of displays are quite expensive when I've looked into them. If you can get a good deal on them then it could be totally worth it!

It would be free- but it might say Gucci on it- I was thinking of computer fans at the bottom front and at the top rear- possibly replacing the door with a screened door and using it with the door in the rear - I was worried about drilling
acrylic without it cracking but I've read it's possible- I don't know if I have the room to work on it here in the winter - so it might be a spring/summer project -I'm thinking I should get one before they throw any away - but I do have a place I can keep it until I'm ready to start - I had a couple of ideas - adding height to it with a box like screen top or something - the warehouse where it would be is a couple of hours from my house so I didn't even want to drive down to look at what he has without checking to see if others with more experience might tell me it's crazy-
