yemen temp help

i have a wooden viv 32inches high 20inches wide 20 inches deep.i have a new habistat dimming stat which the probe is about 7 inches off the bottom i have a 60 watt bulb fitted inside the viv at a angle but i just cant get temps to where i wont them no matter what i do its a litte to low or to high it goes from about 88- 89f to about 97- 98f in the basking spot down to around 77-78f where the probe is.when it looks like i got it right it just keeps going up or down.any help would be great.FRED.SOUTHAMPTON,UK.

well first off, you said you were keeping the heat bulb inside the enclosure?

second. 80-90's is about right for an adult basking spot.
