Your favorite chameleon story

Hi I was Just wondering if any one had any fun story about you and your Cham.

Like this one time I had let my cage open and left to get some food. When I came back my Cham was missing and I looked every were for her. Finally after looking for hour I thought I would lay down for a sec so I stretch my self out on my bed, witch is not to far from my tank close my eyes look to the left and find her on my pillow right next to my face. Thank god I didn't hit her

My favorite would probably have to be with my first cham, a WC Jackson's. It was like 4-5 months after I bought him, he had been super shy and scared with me until one day I was misting him by hand and he came right up to the front and drank infront of me with his eyes closed. Like he finally trusted me enough to let me be near without keeping an eye on me. And then he handfed like a champ after that. That was the turning point, and after that he was the sweetest chameleon. Super easy to handle.

Mine would have to be when I literally saved my chameleon from being swooped up by a hawk. I posted the story on here before. Actually knocked the bird out of the air by swatting its talons (feet)!

I've posted this one before, but LOVE to repeat it...so here goes!

My big Melleri Mufindi was free ranged in my house. Some relatives with 2 teenage kids were coming over to watch a movie of the kids' choice. I cleaned house and forgot all about Mufindi who was sitting in her favorite spot on the refrigerator fan housing out of sight.

The guests arrived with a flurry, we chatted and sat down on the couch to watch the movie. The kids brought Jurassic Park 2. During one of the feasting scenes where some human was being torn apart by a bunch of little lizard dinosaurs (everyone was riveted to the TV) I caught a glimpse of Mufindi climbing up the back of the couch. Before I managed to say anything she reached out and touched the boy on the back of the neck with her front foot. He whipped his head around, took one look at the green and yellow striped dinosaur staring at him, screamed and leaped off the couch. Sister, Mom and Dad screamed and jumped too.

I was too busy howling with laughter to say anything. Mufindi just looked miffed. After all, it was HER couch!

My first panther, Thaxter, was free-ranged in the livingroom. Normally we kept him in by lowering a board across the doorway that we could step over but he couldn't climb, but we weren't so careful about that on weekends or holidays, when we were home to keep an eye on him. One day I found him at the other end of the house, shooting at the cricket cage. My first thought was "You don't belong here," so I picked him up to bring him back "home", but then I thought, "Well, let's see how smart you are," so I didn't lower the lizard gate and left him to his own devices. Sure enough, within 20 minutes he had traversed three rooms and was on top of the cricket cage. At this point, I opened the hatch and let him choose his treat. He was usually very gentle, but he threatened me when I tried to pick him up after he'd had his fill - he'd found a great resource and was going to defend it!

One of many things I like about free ranging chams is watching them establish known safe routes to places they like. Their spatial memory is amazing...to the point they will almost step in their own tracks along the route each time (always going to the LEFT around a chair, RIGHT around the couch, always OVER the lamp stand...if you put a barrier along the way the eyes start spinning as if they can't decide what to do). The first time they wander someplace they rock and sway, hesitate, dither, and look like a nervous ninny. But, if they survive the trip and get "home" safely the next time they go that way they just steam along, tail straight out, determined gleam in their little eyes. I just love it!

Camille my female veiled is the entertainer in the family. We had just left the vet and stopped to get some food before our two hour drive home. Camille was on her plant and the plant sits in the floor of the passenger side of the car. Of course we have to eat in the car it’s way too hot to leave Camille in the car. My husband goes in and gets some food and brings it out and we open our containers and start to eat. Well here comes Camille eyeing our food and getting closer like she’s going to shoot. Then she sees our drinking in the cup holders between the two front seats and she shoots and has a drink of coke. I cup feed so I’m not sure if she thought bugs were in the cup or if she was just thirsty.

Ha Ha!! LMAO to this!!

My very recent story is of my male thamnobates. He is the only cham we handle (only because he wants out of his viv all the time!)

My 8 year old son wanted to hold him, so I let him as he's very sensible (the cham, not my son!!)

After 10 minutes, decide to drive to Macdonalds for a drink and for something to do, when he spots a brown 'ball' on his arm. Not too sure if its chocolate or not, he picks it up, gives it a little squeeze and was just about to take a taste when I knocked his hand down and informed him that Brian the thamnobates had used his arm as a toilet and tissue paper all in one!

How cruel would I have been to let him take a little taste!!!

Before anyone points out the flaw in this story, I don't know where the urate white bit had gone! (It certainly would have ruined the illusion of it being chocolate, so I'm grateful for that!!)
