Your terrarium moving tips and stories

Hello,

I am in the middle of setting up a fully planted 36x18x36 exo terra. Just found out I will be moving to my new house within a year.

I finished the background so it is still movable but already the extra weight shows.

Once planted, it will be very heavy, I'm afraid it will not be strong enough at the pressure points when times comes to move it. I really don't want to push my little project back sooo long.

Emptying it is not an option, the whole system will take a shock and I just rather wait.

Any advice or even horror stories would be very appreciated!

Thanks!

Could you make a little timber carrier for it with two handles each end like a stretcher.that you could slide the viv onto and get it to the car handy

Wouldn't be a bad idea to just build the terrarium onto the 'stretcher' now, so that you don't have to worry about lifting it once it's complete.

Our Menifee location has a completely built custom 36" x 18" x 36" terrarium in the store, and we were able to lift it up and move it around using a few staff members without much difficulty. The tanks are sturdy and as long as you are careful, you'd be surprised at what they can take. Just try not to put all pressure on the glass itself, make sure the borders/feet are what's being lifted with, not the glass.

But in any case, it's probably best to build it on your stretcher now before it's too heavy. :)

Ah, its good to know that they are sturdy from a vendor, to be honest I kinda freaked out, the screen top was sorta bent inwards when i got it and a hinge broke when I opened the doors (while laying it on the back to apply the Great Stuff background). But the rest of it does looks solid.

Like LLL said, it would probably be best to build a stretcher into it before finishing it if you dont have much help. I was able to take two of my 18x24x36" planted vivs from my cham room to my garage on my own, and im not a big guy really... Two people is a breeze.

Just be smart, and be safe about it ;)
