Substrate Question (Zilla Jungle Mix)

Hey! I have been researching chams for the past year and now I am in the process of setting up a terrarium for baby veiled, but I can't decide what type of substrate to use. I realize that most people agree that not using a substrate is the best option, but I was wondering if anyone has found a soil that works great (doesn't mold, and doesn't cause impaction in the cham).

I got some Zilla Jungle Mix, which is a mixture of douglas fir bark and sphagnum peat moss, but after opening the bag, I noticed there were some semi-big pieces of bark (very thin but maybe an inch long. Would it still be safe to use as is, or could I at least get rid of the bigger pieces?

If this mixture isn't safe and I can't find another soil that is safe, I am hoping to just use a terrarium liner. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. :)

Just don't use any. It's a lot cleaner and bugs can't hide in it. Win and win. IMO.

The liner is also a pain in the butt. I got two for nothing. I suppose you can glue it down so bugs don't go under it but then you're left with another messy situation. It's a lot easier to just wipe whatever mess is left in there from time to time. Of course giving it a nice wash every so often is a good idea too. They don't go all over the place. Once per day, if that. Sometimes it just ends up on a plant and never gets to the bottom.

Just be a winner. ;)

I just use bed pads. I got a bag of 18 for about $5 at Walmart. I change it out weekly and it's a simple process of rolling up and throwing out the old one and placing the new one down. It also helps with humidity.
