HI all, i am planning on getting a chameleon before the year is over. i bought a zoomed reptibreeze xl wire cage for it, is this too big?. I have a uvb light and ceramic basking bulb. i was wondering if there was any suggestions on what plants to use and how to secure the fake vines to the cage.

Xl zoomed will be sufficient for most older chameleons, im assuming you're getting a veiled or a panther. I use plastic ties, like the kind that they sell to tie tomatoes up at home depot. There is an abundance of information on here about care for chams. Good luck.

As for the basking light i just use an incandescent bulb of the proper wattage, along with my uvb lighting. I recommend a 10.0 for veileds and panthers.

Then you want perches and garden ties.

I use 4x60 CM Bamboo sticks, natural is ofc best..

I use a fine drill bit/hand tool to make a small hole at the end of each stick, I then thread through the cable tie and feed the ties through the mesh.

This provides support for the perches, I place one perch about 6"/15cm from the top of the enclosure, a second running diagonally about 1'/30cm from the top then another diagonally opposite and directly underneath at 1'1"/31cm, then the fourth pole I use as a gradient perch at around a 15deg angle running from back right diagonal to front left at around 2'/60 cm from top.

I then run my vines in and around this, securing periodically with more ties, making sure to fully wrap and fold the sharp ends in flush with the wood.

When using natural vines it is best to work with the plant, else they snap.

You will want to place reasonable force on each perch to make sure it is secure.
