Anyone with experience in female prolapse?

Anyone with experience in female prolapse I would like to know the details and the outcome for your female. My 15 month old baby Elly had a bad prolapsed Friday afternoon around 4:00. She has been through so much. Dr. Alfonso was out of town but we found an emergency place south of here. She made it through the surgery Friday evening to put it back in and they stitched her vent closed. She’s on Metacam, Baytril and a cream to rub on her vent. I am so worried that when they take out the stitches on Monday that it may come back out or when she poops or if she ever lays eggs again it might come out. Please pray for her or if you don’t pray please keep good thoughts and your fingers crossed for her.

For those that don’t know Elly’s history, she's my preemie and only baby to survive my Luie and Camille 6 month retained clutch. She was so weak I had to get her out of the egg. She sat around for weeks closing her eyes and kept her umbilical cord for weeks. I finally started putting her outside, since it was the first of November it wasn't too hot and I'd move her all around the yard to keep her temps around 80. I do believe the artificial UVB was too strong for her and bothered her eyes because she started improving outside. In July she had an eye injury but that's much better and the end of Sept. she laid a clutch and broke two legs digging and just got over that.

I can't speak from experience since I've never had a female prolapse....but I have had a male or two prolapse. Sometimes its solved with the surgery but sometimes its not. Some will just keep prolapsing. I hope she will be one of the lucky ones....with all she's been through she deserves a break.

Wish I could be more positive about it.

NOO :'( this is horrible jann. i dont know what to say. you and her have been through too much already. its not fair at all. i will pray for you and your beautiful Elly.

Oh My Jann I never knew all that Elly had been through. I do not have any experience with reptile prolapse... just dog. But I do have alot of experience with prayer and your precious Elly will definitely be prayed for.

Thank you Lynda for your input and Morgan and Robin for your prayers.

Anyone else with any experience with female prolapse?

No experience with this Jann, but I will keep you and Elly in my thoughts and prayers. I hope she gets better!!!

So Sorry to hear Jann! She is your little miracle and has been such a trooper. I hope she is gonna be ok. Will say a prayer for you and her.

Never had a female prolapse, but I did have a male with a rectal prolapse (not his hemipenes.) A stitch in the butt took care of it. :) He lived for several more years after that. I'm sure she will be just fine. She's one tough girl after all!

What exactly prolapsed?

Edit: I also have a rescue tortoise (almost 10 years of neglect) who likes to stick his stuff out at me (well I don't know if he does it on purpose, but he does it a lot!) I have to help him hold it in each time and he's had to go in a few times to get stitches too. Despite my thinking it might be best to just amputate it after many visits, my vet told me to keep faith (which I did) and he hasn't had a problem for many months now! I hope I'm not premature in thinking that his problem is over, but it would seem it is as he hasn't bothered to stick it out anymore either. So, hopefully he can be an example of what a little help from the vet and some good TLC can do for a little underdog. Elly, I'm sure, is much tougher than he is!

Please let us know how she is doing after her vet visit today. Will Elly be seeing Dr. Alfonso or is she going back to the emergency vet to get her sutures out?

Just saw this ( been crazy at work with the Holidays :( ) I am so sorry for that little Elly. Both you and her and in my thoughts and prayers.

It is just not fair for one to suffer through so much

Thanks everyone for keeping Elly in your thoughts and prayers. The stitches are out and she had fluids under the skin for dehydration. Ivan is still out of town so we went back to the emergency place but I have been in contact with him via text and email. He says that prolapses can have very mixed results and they can certainly recur regardless of care. Since her prolapse was the urinary bladder the only method of action was what they did at the emergency vets. From the pictures I sent him he thinks it was the bladder but the emergency vet thought it was the intestines. If the prolapse pops out again then the outcome is not good. The thing is that sometimes the prolapse doesn't pop out immediately but after a few hours. So we can't be 100% safe until it has been at least 24-48 hours more or less. It is possible that her constant straining to defecate was the cause for the prolapse so maybe the lactulose helps a bit better than the mineral oil. He said only time will tell and he's definitely hoping for the best for her. She has been through too much and she deserves a break now.
