No it can not. Must get the T head for connection or with the L head you can split the tube with the T value or Y value for splitting the tube before connecting to the L head

Should be fine as long you inspect it for any damages because crickets can find a way out. I would use 1:10 bleach and water and spray it down, let it sit for couple minutes. Rinse it and maybe spray it down again to be safe and really rinse it out and scrub it. (Never know what kind of health...
