I agree roaches>crickets if you are going to raise them. I was just saying if he was buying roaches to feed instead of buying crickets to feed the roaches may cost more.
I would suggest you start raising as many insect varieties that you can if the cost for keeping your chameleon fed is a major concern. Not to mention you know what your insects have eaten before they are fed to your chameleon. I don't 100% understand your question either. Crickets are expensive...
If you have time and access to some outdoor space I'd suggest black soldier flys (bsf) too. They take a little time like a month or more to get fully grown flys but they are super easy to get started and they are naturally higher in calcium than most feeders. Only thing is that you will need to...
I'm no expert but he looks a bit thin to me. I'd be feeding him until he wasn't interested in roaches/crickets anymore. You could also look into black soldier fly larva I hear they are good for chameleons of any age but especially the young ones.
