LOL. I was really grossed out by them when I first got Claudia, but now it's like nothing to me. But I am pretty sure that I'd still scream if I saw one on my bed.
Oh yeah, I'm ready for more. I'm sure this is just the first of MANY escapees haha.
I got Claudia just about two months ago now and everything I read mentioned that occasionally, a cricket will break free and you'll find it roaming around. I was proud that I hadn't yet had this happen.
Until today.
I was sitting here working, minding my business and all of a sudden...
Hibiscus is also my favorite and my cham absolutely is in love with it. I haven't yet tried a pothos, so I can't recommend it from personal experience, but from what I've seen they are perfect for chams with the way they grow.
Haha, thanks everyone. It does feel like something to celebrate, for sure. The only time she really doesn't flee is when she knows I have food or am getting her food ready, so this was a nice surprise, having her plop down on my head when I was cleaning poop LOL.
This is an old old thread but I just caught Claudia eating the dirt from her ficus tree and I flipped out. Straight to Google I went and it led me back here lol. Seems like this is a common, even normal, thing for chams to do. My soil is all natural, but my worry was about impaction which I see...
I usually only hand feed worms because they're easier than crickets. I saw a tip to rip their legs off so they can't jump out of your hand, but I just can't do that so I stick to the slower bugs. I've never had a super try and bite (though I hear they DO), but hornworms sure have tried. It...
I doubt anyone cares, but it feels like a big milestone for me with Claudia. I was just in her cage doing my daily spot cleaning of the cage and suddenly, while my head was part way in the cage, I feel something tickle my head. It took me a second to realize that Claudia had come out and perched...
I'm new to this myself, but I agree that routine is very important. I waited about two weeks with Claudia to try and hand feed. In the mean time, I fed her at the same time every morning and did not bother her while she ate, but she watched me get her food ready. By the time I tried to hand feed...
I agree with what jannb said about covering the cage. I've started doing that this week for the same issue. It seemed my Claudia had trouble falling asleep after lights out. I started covering her cage just before the lights went off, and she was asleep in no time and has been fine sleeping ever...
I do both. I dust the feeders first in a bag and pour them into the cup or let them free in the cage so she can hunt them down. When I feed worms, I always let her hunt them.
Can't say I've ever had an issue with the dust getting everywhere, thankfully. I think she eats them too fast for them...
Makes perfect sense :) Like I said, I do have one in her cage but I don't see her down there and I don't see evidence of digging, but I'll be sure to stay on top of it. Thanks, all. This place is so helpful, I can't even express how grateful I am for it.
She does look pretty full there lol. Here's a picture I took a few minutes ago. Do you think she's still looking a little bloated? I did take that other picture this morning right after she ate, so I don't know if that would make a difference on how puffy she looks.
In any case, I do have a...
It has now been seven weeks since I rescued Claudia from the hands of Petco. She has grown so much! I'm still new at this, but I have to say, I think she's in much better hands at home with me.
This makes me feel so much better! I am a worrier by nature, so every little thing she does I'm usually Googling or asking about lol. Now that I know it's normal, it's so cute. I love that she's adjusting to the schedule I've got her on :)
I've got Claudia on a very strict day/night schedule and have since I got her. The timers turn on and off at 9am and 9pm. I've noticed that over time she seems to get "ready for bed" so to speak. She crawls down to her favorite hibiscus branch and seems to settle it. She doesn't sleep, but she...
