Just wanted to let everyone know, Manny died this evening. I saw it coming as he wouldn't eat or drink right. When I came home tonite, his eyes were sunken so i put him in the tub on a plant and started a steamy shower. Less than ten minutes later, he was gone.
Still trying to figure out...
Is there any way possible to include a pic of the cham lying in front of the light. Pics always help a ton. I think that's the easiest way to access the animal's health situation.
I think placing the UV light outside the mesh will cut down the amount of UV in the enclosure, but not by much I don't think. Like I said before, the only reason I can think of is maybe mistaking it for a basking area. Is the area in front of the bulb more easily accessible?
Oh, almost forgot, I would offer a little more info for the other guys. Cage info, light brand and power. I would also include other behavior patterns in the description as well, such as whether or not the animal stays there all day or moves around. Maybe even provide eating habits and colors...
I'm also a beginner, so I can't really offer much advice. But from what I know, the best course of action would be to check the temperature right at the light source. If it's hotter than the basking area, move the light to the outside of the cage.
I can't offer any information as to the...
I just got my first Cham and mine is being tolerant, even interested sometime. I have no doubt though, that she'll be simply tolerant after manny gets settled in.
Go to an air conditioning place and have them make you a sheet metal pan big enough to serve as a tray in the bottom of the cage. Most of them will do it for free, cut a hole in the center of the pan and a slightly larger one in the bottom of the cage itself. Than you can put some kind of...
I washed them well. i thought i had some soil here, but i didnt so i just covered the dirt for now. I'll grab a bag or two next time i'm out and repot.
So, as I stated above, I'm new here. My name is Ken and I'm from Mississippi. i just got my first chameleon and I'm quickly learning the ins and outs of keeping them. I just wanted to post and introduce myself and thank those who have already offered helpful advice and resourcefulness.
It...
So I got my live plants today. I chose a pothos and a shefelerra(or however you spell it.) What do you guys think?
He looks much happier, or is it just wishful thinking?
Ok, maybe this is a stupid question. What are all the numbers you have beside your pets in your signature. ex: 2.0 Panther 0.3 Veiled? I've searched for the answer to this on the forums and can't seem to find it.
Thanks brad. I'll do those things asap. Just a little more info to make sure he's a senegal. The only colors he's changed so far is a light yellow entirely and then green with black bars. That sound right for a Senegal?
i got the cham for free. A friend got him from one of his friends in texas. He might have been mistaken about the panther part because he was looking at all kinds. I haven't personally talked to the breeder, just my friend that brought him to me. I'm told that he's definetely captive bred though.
Well, maybe it is a senegal. the guy that brought him to me didnt give me much info. he's never dealt with them before. He might have been mistaken. But I know for a fact that he's not wild caught. he got him from a breeder friend of his in texas.
