A sad day at my house.

Just wanted to let everyone know, Manny died this evening. I saw it coming as he wouldn't eat or drink right. When I came home tonite, his eyes were sunken so i put him in the tub on a plant and started a steamy shower. Less than ten minutes later, he was gone.

Still trying to figure out what happened. When I received Manny, he was only a month old and he never seemed to adjust to being here. Is it my fault or was he just too young? He made a 7 hour journey to get here. And I'm thinking it was just too stressful. I've only had him two weeks. I set up his cage and got all the temps and humidity correct. I've fed him a variety of food. I've done absolutely everything that I've read to do on a ton of different sites. I just don't know.

I want to get another Chami, but i think I'm gonna try to get one that's a few months old at the least. Input?

For a first time owner it's almost always advised to get an older chameleon. I haven't really read up on your postings, so I don't know how old yours really was, but the older the easier theoretically. Some species are obviously harder than others, but a baby chameleon is almost always a hurdle to get over, even for the experienced keeper.

Sorry to hear for your loss!

Sorry for your loss. I'd suggest to get something along 4-5 months old for your next chameleon, I got mine at that age and one has already had her first birthday, the other one will have his in early October. BTW, you have the best avatar pic.

This was a cham that was discovered to be a full grown WC Senegal. It could have been full of parasites, could have been poorly acclimated ever since it was in the country, or any number of things. As suggested above, do some more research and get an older 4+ month old captive bred chameleon. They are much easier.

Condolences on your loss. Next time a CB please. Do your research and have the proper enclosures, lights, plants, vitamins and a good mister and you'll be ready.

I still don't think he was full grown. I was told he was a month old. He was only 3-1/2 inches from head to tail.

A month old Werners would shock you with how small they are! They would be maybe over an inch TOTAL length! :) Werners are not large chams.
Sorry for your loss-you have a great set up-don't give up.
