Official Enclosure Picture Thread #2 - post your pics!

This was not a cage built by me, but it was given to me. My only work on it has been screening half the roof, and all the plants. There is still a lot of changes I need to make (bigger door for one, I have no idea what this guy was thinking.) but it works in the mean time. Plants are a dwarf...

    Advice on Wild Caught

I actually got him to eat a grub right out of my hand. I work on an organic farm and went rooting through the soil pile for roaches and grubs. I was able to get him to cup feed without a problem. He was unsure for a minute, and I need a better set-up, but at least I know he will go for it and...

    Advice on Wild Caught

To be honest, I have no idea their effect on native species. I know generally invasive species are hugely destructive, but I'm not sure the specifics. Out here invasive species have killed off almost everything else. We're basically a rock covered in people, pigs, chickens, and chameleons. A...

    Ghetto Boy!

I doubt anyone here treats them at all. I'm just going to give him a while to settle and send a fecal off in a month or two.

    Ghetto Boy!

This is my new little WC Jackson, Tijuana Wahiawa (named after my friend who caught him, and where he was caught). I've never seen one this small with horns this big. I can't wait until he is settled in and showing off those colors again.

    Advice on Wild Caught

I am located on Oahu. At this point almost all the Hawaiian Islands have these guys. I do have an outdoor set-up, about 24"x24"48". It is pretty lush, but not as much as I would like. I may remove some branches and add some more plants. Currently I have one decent sized arrowhead vine, another...

    Advice on Wild Caught

Thanks for the thorough response! No automatic mister here, unfortunately. I have an outdoor set-up since this is an ideal climate and elevation for them. I run a dripper and will use a hose to give the cage a good soak about twice a day if it hasn't rained. I have seen those free-standing...

    Advice on Wild Caught

Thank you so much. I have to look into a vet around here. I took my first Jackson to one I really liked, but they were over an hour away and my car is not ideal for that sort of travel. One of the downsides of living in a rural area. My first course of action is to leave him alone and get him...

    Advice on Wild Caught

I just got myself a new wild caught Jackson after swearing never to do that again. Basically it is the only available type of Jackson here, since they are locally caught. A friend of mine was on a hike and found one, offered to me, and since I was looking to get a new one, I accepted. What I...

    Jackson Safe Plants

I just got a new male Jackson and I wanted to make sure that these plants I have are safe for him. I am not sure the common or species name for them. Thank you!

Chameleon has recently started climbing cage walls

More cover, especially live plants, seem like it would help until a bigger set-up can be arranged.

Saved this guy from PetSmart today...

I used to work at a Petco, and I can guarantee that most of the employees there do care about animal welfare, and are just stuck with the resources and expectations they have put on them. We never had a chameleon in store because financially it didnt make sense for use to set up the proper...

The Chameleons Are Getting New Outside Sun Cages

Amazing cages! I am inspired to fix mine up.

    Weird Jacksons behavior

Going to the bottom of the cage is unusual. I am not very experienced, but I would make sure that the humidity and temperature levels are correct. Because the top of the cage is glass, and it is a relatively small cage, I would make sure it is not too hot, and that it has enough air flow...

    Outdoor Cage Build

Thank you all so much for the references! I think I'm on the right path, I just needed to make sure I wasn't going to do something stupid and overcomplicate it. Right now the cage is window screen, which I've read is a terrible option. Here's what I'm working with. I also need to build a door...

    Outdoor Cage Build

Thank you! I had thought about it, but I'm worried about the amount of rainfall. I suppose I could build a separate "roof" that is removable for when it rains hard, maybe make it tall enough to fit a heat element for winter.

    Outdoor Cage Build

I was given a large (2.5x2.5x4ft) hand built wooden outdoor cage that just isn't exactly what I want. The WC jackson I adopted with the cage didn't make it, so I am going to invest a little bit of cash and time into improving the cage and before I got another, I wanted to see if there were any...

    Too much water?

Repotting with a better draining soil could help, too. Make sure the container has plenty of drainage, and try and layer of gravel int he bottom so any water will run through rather than turning to mud and clogging up.

    Turn for the Worst

Thank you for the kind words. I forgot to check back here until this morning. We had a little burial ceremony for him, wrapped him in some ti leaves from around the yard and a few bits of pele's hair from his cage. I'm taking it as an opportunity to really spruce the cage up, make some...
