great link with great information. looks like most of their nutritional values of dubias are good with the exception of their calcium/phosphorus ratio which is not good at all
Thank you Brodybreaux - this is the type of constructive discussion I was trying to elicit.
Is anybody qualified (ie vet) able to explain or elaborate on how the energy and nutrients the female exhausts is far less with an infertile clutch? Is this a fact, belief or speculation? Can this...
Ok so that didn't really answer my question about why the formation and laying of fertile eggs use up far more energy and nutrients from the female than the laying of infertile eggs.
The tip is a good to know but I did not have intentions to breed my 6 month old female (which I believe I stated...
OK good to know. Thanks. I had assumed the development of the calcium uptake to form the egg's shell is the primary depletion of energy and nutrient from the female.
May I ask how do we (you) know the energy and nutrients the female exhausts is far less with an infertile clutch? Does infertile...
I did not have intentions of breeding my female until she hit her one year mark as suggested by others on this forum. But once the female starts laying eggs, is there any benefit to keep waiting until she is one year old?
My female is only 6 months and she's already laid 31 (infertile) eggs and...
my cham does the same. eats about 4-6 crickets from the cup and then leave the rest. but when I pick them out with a tweezers and hold the crickets on a leaf, it will snap them up.
I'll be honest and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. But I'm spending more time doing feeder maintenance than actually spending time with my chameleons right now. I have 5 panthers which I spend about 30 minutes observing and cleaning their cages daily. But I spend about 1 hour minimum...
there are typically two sizes for window screens. One is insect screen size and the second is for small insect size. You can guess which one is smaller and tighter weave. The small insect size is not carried often by hardware stores and will cost you quite a bit more because it takes more...
10 min baths at 95F 3 days in a row and I got her to poop. This is a decision I made after not seeing any poop for 7 days and also witnessing her trying to pass her poop for 30 min+ unsuccessfully.
I used information I had researched to determine the warmest temperature to give her a bath in...
OK after three warms baths at 95F and two droplets of mineral oil into her angry mouth last night, she pooped this morning. Now I hope she gets back into her normal routine of killing feeder bugs
These are my current setup with the fake ficus tree branches for foliage. I insert the base into sand. The middle picture is for the females which doubles as a lay bin. No more dead leaves, broken leaves and hiding crickets under the pots and in the plants.
I have given up on the real plants. I was doing more work picking up loose and dead leaves on a daily basis than maintaining their enclosures.
I bought a fake ficus tree that had 3 stems from the base. I then cut the main stems and put one into each enclosure for foliage and I insert the bottom...
they get hot enough to make it very very uncomfortable to handle depending on your sensitivity to heat. But not hot enough to create basking temperatures for chameleons.
All great suggestions thank you all. Basking spot temps are mid to high 80s
Sorry mawtyplant I already gave them both warm showers. Little female had good feeding response today including a hornworm but no poops yet. Larger female still no poops and not eating. She sat in the squat position...
Just wanted to post this out there for anyone wanting to feed lots of black soldier flies to your chams.
My BSFL all started to pupate and turn into flies. Perfect food for my chameleons. My large male chameleon eats them no problems and no issues.
My two females, a young 4 month female and an...
OK so i've been using this for a month or so and I do not recommend this if you are a live free range feeder. The crickets all hide behind the leaves between the screen and the leaves. I found 2 dozen crickets hiding back there that I hav to slowly find and take out. I'm probably going to be...
