I should add, I'm assuming he's not wheezing or bubbling, or anything like that. If he's breathing fine and his mouth looks normal inside and out then it's probably just heat.
Sometimes they gape to vent some heat. Might want to check the temp at that spot where he's doing it, but a little heat gaping is normal. Just make sure you adjust things so it happens infrequently. Personally I tune until they stop doing it completely.
