Hi all, I am trying to hatch my first batch of silkworm eggs. I had a bunch of silkworms who turned into moths and laid eggs back in August. The eggs spent a week or 2 at room temperature, then I put them in the fridge for a month, and now for like 2 weeks I've kept them in a small exo terra...
Ok, thanks, will think about it some more then. I just got this leafy-flowery thing which I thought would look great wrapped around the vines and branches. I also don't mind washing it every once in a while if it makes any difference :)
So far the fluorescent bulbs I've seen in pet stores are sold as aquarium bulbs. Can they be used for terrariums as well? Oh and @jamest0o0 I've got one last stupid question for you: can I still use some fake plants and decorations in a bioactive setup? Most of the plants will be live but will...
@jamest0o0 thank you for the detailed explanation :) @etclement what brand of LED are you using and do you think just one T8 bulb would work for a 48x25x25" enclosure? I have a fixture for 2 T8 bulbs so would be great to use a LED alongside the UVB, much less bulky.
Thanks, I'll give it a try. So far I've been giving him multivitamin with D3 twice a month (which I assume contains vitamin A) and calcium every day. He did eat 4 big silkworms today which I guess equals to 10-12 crickets in nutritional value. I'm also not sure how much he is supposed to eat at...
@jajeanpierre thank you for reply. His tongue is working fine now, so I guess he just injured it but now it seems to be healed. He still has poor appetite though. He also has been looking like he is about to shed his body skin for over a week now, but seems to be "stuck". I read they also get...
My room is quite sunny but the enclosure stands in the corner so doesn't get too much sun I guess, also it's glass. There are different wattages for jungle dawn, which wattage would I need for 120x60x60 cm? (It's 48x24x24 in inches I think)and do they require a special fixture or holder? There's...
Right now in the pots there are two thirds of the soil they came with from the shop, I assume it had fertilizers and stuff, and the top layer is replaced by an organic mix with vermicompost. I just read the description of the Arcadia substrate, and apparently it's Bioactive-ready, contains lava...
Nice, thank you for the detailed explanation! So I can just replace the top layer with organic soil in the pots instead of repotting completely? I think I'll just order the bioactive substrate from Arcadia which already has all the needed organisms. Which plants would you recommend for the...
@jamest0o0 thank you for reply, I feel encouraged now :) I would still like to keep most of my plants in pots on the wall (like in the photo attached), and maybe plant something small at the bottom. Would I need to replace the substrate in the pots to bioactive one too and put leaves on top? I...
So I've been reading about Bioactive enclosures today and it sounds like a great idea, mainly because it would make my life so much easier in terms of cleanup. From my research, these are the main pros and cons I came up with so far: pros: once established, does not require cleaning other than...
Thank you for the tip! I the multivitamin I have is with D3, so I assume I'll just use that once every 2 weeks. As for the screen cage, I know they are popular in U.S., but here in Europe most keepers and breeders successfully use glass, as the climate is generally more dry and winters get...

Over the last days Lenny seemed to have decreased appetite for crickets, he used to love hunting them but now doesn't bother, he still eats from the cup but a lot less than he used to and kind of stays in one spot and won't eat unless I put the cup really close to him, he would sometime try...
So I went to the vet and it turned out to be false alarm... The parasite test came out negative and what I thought to be worms was actually pieces of hair or some fiber coated in mucus. My dog is in heavy shed now butstill it's a mystery how his hair got into the enclosure... I was so excited...
It was definitely not coccidia, I keep forgetting the name... But the vet adviced to just clean with ammonium solution (I used Zoo Med's Wipe out spray which contains it). And I got a new enclosure since then, around 2 weeks before. His poop looked totally fine until today, he had good appetite...
Hi fellow chameleon lovers,
Today I found some string-like transparent thingies in my chameleon's poop (he's a male veiled about 5 months old), and I'm pretty sure it's some kind of worms, nematodes maybe. Surely, I am taking him to the vet tomorrow and will bring the poop sample for...
