    when they are growing giving them as much as they can eat is ok . in the wild that is what they would do . as they get older they will eat less .

    unless the room is going below 55 degrees you can leave the purple light off . if you feel they need heat buy a ceramic heat bulb , it can't disturb their sleep at all . I also put my lizards in the shower with a plant once a week when I have them indoors .

    there is a chance that this is not the same for all species of chameleon . maybe hatchling veileds occur in such large densities (30 plus eggs sometimes ) that this behavior is beneficial . whereas some other species (quads , montium ) have much smaller clutches , so the babies never congregate...

    great looking little lizard .I don't know which south hampton you are from but if it is in new York I might be interested in 1 or 2 animals . I have had 1 hatch out already and I have 3 more eggs incubating .

    i'll probably add another plant over the weekend . I only have 1 lizard in there now . I have 3 more eggs that have not hatched yet . right now he seems to be active in looking for and catching his food so I don't want to mess with him too much . more cover will be necessary when the other eggs...

    did you use organic potting soil or organic soil ? potting soil drains much better than composted soil , if you used composted soil it could be sitting in mud . what I do is use potting soil with a thin layer of composted soil on top for added nutrients . the plant will still have adequate...

    how old is this lizard ? what cage setup do you have ? these among other things are important and the correct set up for the lizard can help alleviate any stress he feels . a stressed chameleon likes to feel safe . having enough cover can help the animal through the acclimation to his new home .

    for my large outdoor cages I use pvc coated wire mesh . the raccoons can not get through it and it is safe for the lizards .
