Need help! I don't know if his cage is setup properly and if he's happy and healthy

It's the chameleon & cage info questions from that link that need copied and pasted here, and then answered. It gives these experts a better idea of what's going on, since the species and the age and the cage make all the difference in the world in the advice they will give, and in how the...

Just found out my veiled chameleon has coccidaia!

It's a common horse drug sold under the name Marquis Paste - at the shelter I worked at we would dose out cat and dog sized amounts from the tube under veterinary supervision. It was a really small amount though, so for a really tiny animal it would need to be diluted or compounded to be safe...

Just found out my veiled chameleon has coccidaia!

For fuzzy animals (dogs and cats) Albon is usually much more well tolerated than Marquis Paste (Ponazuril), and it has a higher effectiveness, probably because a 10 day to 21 day treatment time gives the owners more time to clean up, which keeps reinfection from reoccurring after. An old school...

Chameleon Mortality in First Year after Acquisition

Non-reptile and non-pet people don't like being told what to do or to go out and spend more money. I've spent 5 years admining on a hermit crab board, and learned very quickly that there are people who are open to learning the right way, and that there are people who won't listen to anything...

Longevity of Panther Chameleons 2 - Contributing Factors

Given that chameleons burn fast and die young, wouldn't it be more stressful on a female to be breeding at an older age? And if it's true they only live a season or so in the wild - and given how young they can breed, how many eggs are produced in a year and the length of incubation time, I can...

Just found out my veiled chameleon has coccidaia!

I just bought a big bottle of 40 volume at Sally's for $5 for cleaning. Can't beat the price. :) Take heed to wear gloves like suggested! I did but got some on my arm by accident and ooh did it burn. It'll also take the color out of clothing.

    Bsfl pupating

Coming to my rescue again! I didn't know if the ones that weren't moving were dead or not. Now I do. :)

    Local Petco-Sick Chameleon

I'm not sure why, but my local Petco closed down a few years back, but then reopened in the same location 18 months later - but with practically no pets. They have bettas, feeder fish, small rodents and the occasional ferret, but that's it. No reptiles. No hermit crabs. No fish - and they used...

Fed darkling beetles an orange and they all died?

I'll stick with the basics then. Thank you! Funny that the mealworms and beetles got the orange as well and were completely fine.

Fed darkling beetles an orange and they all died?

Welp, in the end every single beetle dropped dead. Starting fresh with a new batch of pupae, and STILL waiting for little worms to start popping up in the bins! I know it'll be worth it if I can get them them going, but my gosh is this taking forever.... In the meantime, can anyone...

    UVB bulbs: Coil vs. Tube

Hasn't anyone sat down with samples and done honest studies across all the products in recent years? I know there was a problem with the coiled type for around a year and a half but that was supposed to have been corrected years ago. There's also always questions about how much does screen...

Could use help and guidance - new veiled owner with new rescue

Oh Andee, I'm so sorry that Hope isn't bouncing back quickly. I'm glad to hear that she's making strides though! :) I used to think that about shedding - it was a sign of a healthy animal, but I just took in three MBD leopard geckos who had all been shedding regularly even though they...

Could use help and guidance - new veiled owner with new rescue

Andee - you were spot on with saying they shed in stages. I had assumed that she had started with her stomach which is why I didn't see it, but today just her belly was in full shed! Shocked the heck out of me. They are so WEIRD! I thought I had a handle on reptiles, and then this little lady...

    Any chameleons good with aquariums?

If you like the idea of rescues and want to go aquatic, there are tons of turtles out there needing forever homes! Your tank is a nice size and can be good for several species so long as you research before hand to make sure it's not going to get too big. So many people buy baby turtles, and...

Some sort of allergic reaction to veiled chameleon?

See if it's the food. It's very easy to be or become allergic to mealworms, roaches, pretty much any of it. If she feels brave enough, expose her to them in a neutral location and see what happens. I've lost the ability to feed several insects now due to allergies. :( Mine is mostly asthma but I...

Veiled cham keeps trying to hunt people's faces?

Did you give her food right after the first time it happened? My snake 'learns' routine after just one time of doing something, and then it's weeks until he forgets it. Give him two food items and he'll expect two every feeding for the next 6 weeks. (And go after me as if I was the food if I...

Is there a quick way to tell if calciworms aren't dead?

I tried wetting them before thinking for sure they would react, but they still won't move right away. I still have to wait around 15 minutes for them to start wiggling. :/
