I should start this off by saying a 43 year old and father of 3, two of my kids are adults. I have two adult Veiled Chameleons who bred. The first clutch -about 32 eggs- had 16 babies hatch, of which I lost 11 due to a variety of reasons, A few never opened their eyes and didn’t live more than...
I have three female Veiled chameleons- it breaks my heart to sell them, but I have too many, and wife is making me choose. All three of these girls I have had from the time they were eggs (they are from my adult females clutch - and hatched the week of Christmas)
I have named them Nonee, Cami...
I have him on a towel at the bottom of his cage, he isn’t even trying to climb now :(
I don’t want him to suffer and I don’t want to lose him... hard choices coming
About a week ago my adult Veiled, Oscar -who is around 4 years old- suddenly started falling out of the branches in his breezeway cage. Since then when he crawls he “drags” his back legs- and he seems to be very off balance - I have found him several times laying on his side not moving.
His grip...
It’s amazing how much Joy they bring- I can’t imagine a day without them.
Having them sleep on my hand or eat from it is a sign of the trust they put into me.
I love my baby Veileds as much as my adults (parents) they all have unique personalities too - he should be fine, still a pretty unsettling experience, you handled it better than I would have.
Try actual Vitamin A- the liquid caps you get at any store- poke a hole and put a drop on his lips while he is drinking - I got two chameleons to open their eyes and have normal eyesight after a similar issue, this was recommended to me by the vet that saw them.
I am sorry to read this, and for your loss - he truly was beautiful.
I have dealt with knowing they are sick and doing all you can to help them, but I can’t imagine the shock and hurt from a loss like that with no warning.
I personally wish I had never let mine breed- I love the babies, but now can’t find homes for any of them -and they are all too big to be in the same cage- it’s also ridiculous how much growing Veiled chams eat!
I say sure and bring them in my office to see Oscar- my 3 yr old Veiled adult male - who flares up and hisses while keeping his mouth open if you walk past his cage or put your hand in or near him too fast, lol one hiss and they change their tune about holding him
