Chams shouldnt be held on the regular. They are much more of a visual pet. Ive had mine almost 7 months and he still wont come to my hand. Be very patient with him and give them space as they are very territorial. Mine absolutely hated me for about 3- 4 months.
If you dont know this information i wouldnt recommend getting one tomorrow... especially from a pet store if thats what you were thinking. Just my opinion.
A few months ago someone posted pics of baby Veiled chameleons and one was red. Cant remember who it was. Anyone know what became of that baby? Im curious.
Ive seen mine chomping on a leaf one time. And another time he blasted a cricket and also got part of the leaf. There is a perfect bite mark out of the leaf. Ill try to find it lol
Chams typically dont just eat any kind of plants like they would insects. Thats why you feed the crickets/ dubias, worms, etc greens and types of fruit. Ive seen my cham eat part of of a leaf one time and hes a panther. Can you post pics of the enclosure on this thread? Im curious
Do not feed them meal worms. They have very little nutritional value to chams and can cause health problens. Crickets and dubias are best. I suggest you read the care sheets provided on this site.....
Is it ok for a cham to sleep straight up and down like in the pic i provided? I know they will get into this position with a respiratory infection when they are awake. Just wondering if its ok while sleeping. Thanks,
Ken
Its been a busy summer so I havent been on for a while, been doing a lot of shadowing as I plan on having my app to med school in this fall. Check out how my little Greedo has grown and the colors! 8 months old on the 25th(:
Hey dont feel bad. My first cham died and i beat myself up about it for like 3 months. I did lots of research and now things are going much better the second time around. He might have something in his eye. Hopefully the misting will help it get out of his eye
Try using a higher watt white household buld. I personally use a 60 watt and it keeps my chams bask at 87. When i tried a 75 it was like 106 lol. I wouldn't use cricket food. Just get like an apple or mango and feed them that. Sometimes the cricket food has chemicals and other stuff thats not...
I see a few problems here.
1. Mealworms have very little nutritional value and are very hard on a chams digestion. You can use super worms instead. Stop the meal worms asap.
2. You should be dusting your crickets with calcium without vitamin d3 every feeding. Dusting with a multi vitamin 2 times...
