Okay so for some reason at night in my chameleon cage, I hear these weird scratching noises when all the lights are off. When the lights are on in my room, the scratching noises aren't there at all. I really need help because IDK If it's my chameleon making the sound or the branches? I haven't slept in the past couple nights due to this scratching in my cham's cage. I really need sleep and I just don't know what to do. Please help me because my mental health at the moment is not in the best areas so I really need sleep. Please, please reply if you have the same thing or know what to do about it. Thanks.

Male or female Cham? If it’s a female she is digging at the bottom of the enclosure trying to lay her eggs. If you do have a female you need to get her a laying bin ASAP

My thoughts exactly! What kind if bugs are in there and why would so many be left in the cage?
I just put like 7 crickets in there and they are usually gone, I wonder what the scratching is? Because I have a male not a female.

First I would clean my cage. If you have bugs or what ever, you should find and remove them. Maybe teach your cham to cup feed so there is nothing roaming free in the cage. Also I would limit the items in the cage until you are able to correct the noise. Should be pretty easy to fix, but if you need help, just shoot me a pm.

Okay thanks so much! I'm just worried my cham will get pretty defensive because he does get defensive sometimes when I get near so him, So I'll just suck it up and risk it. Thanks!

Not to worry, he gets testy only because he is most like afraid! Keep in mind we look like giant monsters to chams. You can also ask JannB how she gets her chams to be friendly. She works wonders!

Did you look for whatever it is when you heard the scratching?

If it was the Cham you would notice he's awake.

Unless you have a crazy breeze In your room I doubt it's the branches.

As mentioned above you could clean out the cage and see if you see anything.

My other thought is that it is possibly something trying to get into the cage at night rather then something already in there.

I sometimes have this problem with my chameleon. She is cup-feeds and hand feeds. On random nights she just paces and its odd, but then I figured out I was feeding her too close to bedtime and she probably wasn't getting a full digest of her bugs and it was making her restless. I thought it was her trying to dig, but when I put a little bin of sand in her cage to see if she would mess with it, she never touched it. Now I make sure to feed her well before bedtime and we haven't had any problems as of late.
