From what I can tell, they shouldn't :)
There's always gonna be a chance that a plant is harmful in a way that hasn't been documented, but until we get some good in-depth research on the effects of every plant on veiled chameleons, we can never be 100% sure. But we can be pretty close based on...
Totally spaced coming back to this after seeing the notification, oops ?
Selenicereus anthonyanus and Disocactus anguliger both go by the common name "fishbone cactus", but it doesn't appear that either are toxic (true cactus in general aren't- I imagine physical defenses undercut the...
Nope, no mold! Manzanita is actually supposed to be pretty mold-resistant/good for humid environments. It's still wood though, so mold is always a possibility.
Mine is off the ground (foamed/glued into large pieces of cork that make up parts of the background) so it dries pretty quickly with...
She's the most personable chameleon I could've asked for, but unfortunately her adventurous spirit makes it challenging to get good pictures ?
She did let me get one, after coaxing her back into the enclosure:
How do your chameleons react to having their photo taken? ?
My vote's for Syngonium neglectum. It's a Mexico native that's been spread around and become invasive in some countries. For syngoniums in general, all I can find in terms of toxicity is the presence of insoluble calcium oxalates (which are also present in commonly used plants like pothos and...
Nope, can't do it. They're just too cute ?
Keeping bees isn't hard in theory, though. They keep themselves- we just give them a nice house. Sustainability would be the main issue, plus the need for gardening to support them. I don't know how these overwinter, either. And the fact that keeping...
Ugh, that's so terrible. The big corporations are bad, but I guess it's good that they have some standards.
I swear I've heard of that place in a different context, too. I looked at the google reviews for the heck of it and now I need to go spend time with each one of my little animals, my heart...
Honestly, while this sentiment is great, I don't think it's teaching companies anything.
When an animal dies in the store, it's stuffed in a freezer and eventually disposed of by an authorized party (humane society, vet, or something similar). It's written on a sheet of paper with the UPC so...
It's corporate, y'all.... People sitting in a cozy office in California or Arizona with their dog are the ones making blanket rules for animal care. At store-level, there's very very little employees can properly provide without a district leader coming in and making a report.... we would try...
I've seen tree fern panels used a lot in vivariums, especially for things like dart frogs. I think they're mainly used as a "natural" looking foundation for epiphytes. But yeah, they're expensive and in a drier enclosure where most epiphytes won't thrive anyway, there's way better options. Cork...
That's how we're operating a dozen different animal enclosures around our apartment. It was great until we had to get a new router and re-do everything ?
It's worth it though. It makes cable management easier, especially with the long shop power strips.
She's stressed out, probably by the new environment. Mine turned those colors the first time she saw my boyfriend ? The new plant probably just spooked her.
She doesn't appear to be as old as you were told, though. She looks really small compared to the screen & fake plant, and her normal...
Those screen cages are packed so horribly. I ordered one earlier this year that arrived much like your second, and thankfully the damage was limited to a dented frame near the top and a couple holes in the back screen from those tabs on the top piece & service door ?
I've had a whole mess of...
I like Hirt's. Good prices & packed well, but they sometimes send newly started plants. I've gotten some wonderfully full pothos & ficus pumila from this etsy shop, too.
I'd give the sarracenia a different home- they need boggy, nutrient-bare conditions and are particular about their water. Plus, they need a dormant period in the winter to thrive! Everything else should do fine though.
Some manzanita would be a great addition if you can find it! It offers a...
