Has any chameleon died from eating too many superworms?

I think the legitimacy of that film was found to be debatable at best, but the heart of it is still valid- large amounts of unhealthy food is unhealthy. Though, death from obesity is more like death by side effects of obesity...usually some form of organ failure from straining to process...

    Bioactive or not?

I personally get a lot of enjoyment out of bioactive enclosures, aside from the benefits for the inhabitant. I've always been a gardener & landscaper, so having a big indoor garden in my apartment is kind of a therapeutic thing for me. I thoroughly enjoy spending time "gardening" with my...

    Hibiscus Help - Dr.Earth?

Ohh wow, it must not have enjoyed its move ? Hibiscus drop a lot of leaves when moving from high light & warm, humid conditions (say, from a greenhouse) to lower light & temperatures. Disturbing the roots probably added another layer of shock (I try to keep the root ball intact when...

    Chameleon Coloring

I don't think it was mentioned yet (unless I'm just blind today) but avoid using fake plants at all in there! She'll want to eat her plants, and accidentally ingesting plastic could cause serious harm. Real ones are also great for maintaining humidity :)

    Chameleon Coloring

Do you have a photo of the entire setup? They can be dark because of stress or because they're trying to absorb more heat. It definitely looks bare though, so I'm sure that's a major factor. Also, scrap the carpet and go with a bare bottom. It's safer and easier :)

    brasil heartleaf philodendron?

Philodendrons earned the "toxic" label because the oxalate crystals in them can be (mechanically, not chemically) irritating to mammals and can cause calcium imbalances if ingested in large quantities. However, pothos are the exact same way, and they're a "veilied-tested" and widely used plant...

    Veiled Swimming + Hunts fish??!

Keeping an animal in an environment so far from its ideal that it's outright hazardous is entirely to blame on the person who arranged those conditions. Whether it was staged, accidental, the result of interspecies conflict, confusion, curiosity, whatever- the owner of these animals is willfully...

    Veiled Swimming + Hunts fish??!

Poor thing looked so uncomfortable the entire time... "Looks like he's looking for prey" no it looks like he's looking for a path to somewhere safe & comfortable ? Exactly this. That chameleon was looking for something to grab onto the entire time, and panicked when it lost contact with a...

    Is her cage too crowded?

I spend too many hours of my day looking at plants ?

    Is her cage too crowded?

Definitely upgrade, she looks cramped! Get an 18x18x36 or larger. Also, is that really a hibiscus in there? Hibiscus leaves are (usually, if not always??) serrated, and the habit looks strange.

    Jackson's Chameleons @ Petco

I worked at the other Pet____ store , so I'll throw in a couple of cents. These stores do get their animals from mills. Unfortunately, animals are often shipped regardless of the store's on-hand count when there's surplus. My store occasionally received animals that were supposed to have been...

New theory on why they all hatch at once in the wild

This is true in my experience with poultry. Sound & motion stimulates them to hatch!

Good place to buy a large free range tree

Depending on where you are, it's kind of the off-season for house plants. With outdoor gardening weather coming to a close, you might start to see more options for the indoor months :) You might also ask local nurseries/garden centers about special-ordering something for you!

Can a chameleon stress going into a "used" cage?

Pathogens aside, a new environment can be stressful for chameleons.

    Coupla Plant Questions...

Ficus like their roots snug in their pot and tend to suffer when their roots are messed with. Rubber trees in particular tend to be planted in groups because they just grow straight up without branching, and look goofy on their own! If it's an older established bunch, I'd avoid separating them...

Twin sons of different mothers. LOL

They're ruthless killers, and do it for fun sometimes. I've had to walk the creek counting legs & heads to find out how many young chickens were still loose after a break-in ? They're responsible for several missing barn kittens, too. Opossums are chill though, usually just gotta push 'em along...

Make sure it's level. If the frame is skewed, the door won't sit quite right.

Phoebis sennae maybe? Probably not much to worry about if there aren't many ?

    Isopods and springtails

They sure are- they're necessary for a bioactive enclosure. Just go for smaller isopods, like dwarf whites & purples. I threw in some dairy cows for fun and they ended up being an expensive snack lol

    Interspecies relations

Hybridization is largely considered unethical (aside from the people who get a kick out of creating something weird) because it often results in complications and defects- and especially in the case of reptiles & amphibians, it can pollute genetics if the offspring is able to carelessly...
