Yes, you can't see it well, but there is black wire mesh covering all the openings. I'm not worried about it when I open them due to how I plan to finish filling it out, I'll have one side that's meant to open first. I've never had a crested that tried to "bolt for it" more than a jump or two...
Thank you! I saw anywhere from 10-33 Gallons each adult. I may look for some older ones that can be sexed properly to ensure I'm getting all females or maybe a single male with them. My enclosure comes out to roughly 175 gallons of usable space so I was thinking of not pushing it and maybe go...
Hey everyone, I'm back after a few years. So back when I had Merlin, my panther chameleon I built this enclosure for him but unfortunately he got a bacterial infection which cost him his sight and he wasn't able to use it. I haven't been able to make myself get another one due to the time it...
To be honest I really don't know what I would sell it for, I paid $200 for the armoire alone and the great stuff pond and stone is like $7-8 a can and I think I used 14 on top of all the other supplies (which is why I know I'm not making money on it haha). It is ~4'w X 2'd X 7' tall. I know...
I appreciate the kind words, and I know I'm being silly about thinking of it as "Merlin's cage." We shall see, another factor is there is a good chance that I'll start traveling for work more often, potentially a few times a month versus a few times a year. So I thought about getting back into...
Oh and it is set up for lights, mist system including drainage etc. Let me know if there are questions and if you all even think it's worth trying to sell.
Thanks
So this is a very sad post, but my panther Merlin passed away. He fought a bacterial infection that cost him his sight for around 6 months and finally ran out of fight. I built this to be his mansion, and now that he's gone I'm really bummed out and don't know if I even want to put a different...
Yep you want something that will block out the light. I put a towel in the bottom of a box with a well secured branch and then put a towel over the top so no light gets in. I've heard that by blocking the light you can somewhat trick them into thinking it's night and they will stress out less...
@kinyonga His mouth is not open all the time, he was taking a gulp/swallow at the time of the picture so it was just bad timing. I appreciate your concern, and share your sentiment about this being a bad situation and his eyes being very sunken in. I am still working with the vet closely. As...
Thanks for the replies and the link! I think it may be time to go back to the vet again and try a vitamin A shot to see if we can get him out of his slump. Glad to know that others have had success over extended periods of time with blind chams. The real shame is that my armoire enclosure...
So I wish this post was all positive, but it isn't unfortunately. I haven't been on in a few months due to work and other stuff like we all get caught up in. So Merlin closed his eyes back in Sept/Oct. and hasn't opened them since. Before everyone jumps up in arms, I have been to the vet, and...
If you're looking for some that doesn't expand as much, you can use the "Pond and Stone" type of Great Stuff. It is black versus the yellow/white of the normal stuff, but if you're covering it anyway it shouldn't matter that it's different than what you used already. It expands less and is...
So it's been a while since I put up some pictures of Merlin, and he's still going strong! I'm about to go give him a nice big horn worm which are hands down his favorite! Hope everyone else is doing well!
Spot on! My breeder did mention to be very careful with ceramic heat emitters (I had to use one in the winter) because your cham can basically cook herself under these if they are too hot. You'll want to have a temp gun if you use one so you can get instant accurate readings of the temps. I...
First off welcome and congrats on your new girl!!! I have a panther, but this should still be applicable to your veiled. To start you DO NOT want any light on at night. The light will mess with her and stress her out. A temperature drop is actually a good thing for them at night. Panthers...
