New here, and new owner!

Hello everyone! Yesterday I picked up a beautiful baby girl veiled named "Luna"! Being a new Cham owner I have a few questions. My temperature in her new home (I'm using an aluminum cage) is sitting around 77-83 degrees Fahrenheit, and her humidity is around 47%-51% I'm a little worried about her humidity.. I bought a dropper, I am spraying her habitat roughly 5 times a day, and I bought a waterfall. Another question I have is, how can I have her light turned off at night while she maintains body temperature? Is there some sort of night lights they have? Her light lit up my whole room when I have the lights turned off! Thanks :)

The veiled do not need any night light when they sleep, any light source will disturb their sleeping period,if the night temperature drop below 50F,u can always use a ceramic heating without any light sources since the complete darkness at night are the only suitable situation during their sleep, hope this help a bit.

First off welcome and congrats on your new girl!!! I have a panther, but this should still be applicable to your veiled. To start you DO NOT want any light on at night. The light will mess with her and stress her out. A temperature drop is actually a good thing for them at night. Panthers can get down to low 60s at night and be fine. As for humidity, not sure what veileds are supposed to be at, but if you need to increase it you can drape a wet hand towel over a corner/side of the cage. I have a hand towel that I wet once a day and it covers about 20% of that side and about 25% of the top (just to hold it up). I mist my guy five times a day and this helps keep my humidity in a good range. As for the waterfall, you will need to be VERY diligent in keeping it clean if you want to have it in there as chams like to go to the bathroom in them and they can quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria etc. Most people on here are pretty against them just due to them not being worth the risk and since you already have a dripper for a water source you don't need it. I put the veiled caresheet link below which should help if you haven't read it already. Hope that helps, and feel free to ask any questions, this is an awesome forum with TONS of very knowledgeable and helpful people!

Spot on! My breeder did mention to be very careful with ceramic heat emitters (I had to use one in the winter) because your cham can basically cook herself under these if they are too hot. You'll want to have a temp gun if you use one so you can get instant accurate readings of the temps. I also bought a light fixture with a dimmer dial so I can dial in my lights or heater at night if needed.

One other thing I forgot to mention since you have a little lady is that she will need a laying bin eventually. Even without breeding she will develop eggs and can become egg bound if she doesn't have a place to lay them. Sorry if you know all this already, just saw "new member" and wanted to help out (and I get excited about this stuff too much sometimes haha) (y)

The thing with the ceramic heat, which I highly doubt u will even use it at all, unless ur house temperature is way below 50 which a human wont even sleep in that temperature range comfortablely, unless is a winter power outage(then u still need a generator to power up) or u live some where like Alaska then u probably will use it .

Congrats, how bout some pics of her. I believe that 50% humidity with a couple spikes up to 90% will be ok for a veiled especially with the dripper. I'm am still a beginner so do some research of your own. I like to try to stay at 50-60% with 3 big spikes throughout the day. Be sure not to mist to soon before lights out. Good luck light and love to you and yours.

I cant beleive no one said this yet. Get ridf of the waterfall you dont need it and it will create more problems and need to be cleaned every day very well.

You dont need a high constant humidity, just spikes. If you can spike humidity to 60%ish and keep it at 30/40+ all day that should be fine.
