How do I keep humidity up in a screened cage?

I know you didn't quote me but seeing as I know the general reasoning that this shouldn't be done... When you mist during the night there is no light or warmth to evaporate the water thus leaving stagnant water around- not only that, but I'm sure the chameleons get woken up from the misting...

    Uromastyx - Kondo & Tae

Yes! Even when they eat.. it#s a bit faster than a tortoise, but reminds me of how they eat too :) They also always look so happy, as if constantly smiling. Kondo also "waves" while basking. The way the basking stones are positioned cause his leg to hang down a bit so he, without looking...

    Veiled Eating plants

You can see v-shaped bite marks in almost every plant leaf in Yuki's vivarium. It's as if she tastes EVERY leaf before giving them the OK to be in her territory, so this seems like a fairly normal thing ;) I even caught Ryuu munching on leaves as soon as he entered his new home Saturday... If...

How do I keep humidity up in a screened cage?

It really depends on the humidity of the air around the vivarium as well (global location). If the screen vivariums are not covered up on 3 sides at home, they lose next to all humidity within 30 minutes of being misted. Misting every 30 minutes wouldn't be a viable solution :) This is why I...

How do I keep humidity up in a screened cage?

With one of my terarriums which needs higher humidity but doesn't keep it I just put saran/plastic wrap around it. This also prevents the (possible) wall behind it from getting wet, which is an added bonus! Worked like a charm :) It also depends on where you live. If it's drier, a solution like...

    Did You Know?

I have read it somewhere... if I find the location I will let you know! It might have been false information what I did end up reading, but I know I did read it :) ::EDIT:: I cannot for the life of me figure out where I read it :( I remember reading it on one source while looking up ellioti...

    Temporary UVB+Heat Bulb in one

I was wondering if, as a temporary solution, it would be alright to have a combination lightbulb that does both UVB and Heat. This would be for a couple of months, till summer at MOST, until I can build together a stand for Yuki's new vivarium. I plan on building in some nice tubes for him then...

    Did You Know?

Not entirely true. The Elliot's Chameleons also give birth to live offspring. I find it awesome that there are some exceptions to the rule :) This may not be true, but I did once read that if the conditions are right for egg laying (really warm) then they will do that instead. But typically...

Aphids as a food source for small chams?

All the shops I visit and those I order from don't have them. :( Maybe I can find some though, I'll have to do a bit more searching :)

    Uromastyx - Kondo & Tae

Decided on names for these two after almost a year! They're estimated to be 4-5 years old. They're awesome pets, and I thought I would share them with you guys! Kondo: Tae (with Kondo in the background): Tae (left) & Kondo (right): Unfortunately the pictures aren't amazing...

Aphids as a food source for small chams?

The aphids should be non toxic as they are bred for feeding purposes. But I can always ask what they were raised on! Never heard of firebrats, and I don't think I've ever seen anything like them in stores or online here in Germany :( I also have access to small white woodlice, but those...

Aphids as a food source for small chams?

Just wondering if I should order some aphids for my new little elliot's chameleon. The flies I have at home are too big at the moment. I would grab pinhead crickets, but they tend to hide and disappear without being eaten. Fruitflies I will be getting tomorrow, but I'd like to get something else...

Just got back from Hamm (Reptile Expo)...

Yes she is captive bred :) Marimo is as well! They really are hard to come by... there was only 3 left when I found the stand. The guy had had 14. SO happy though, she is adorable :)

Just got back from Hamm (Reptile Expo)...

No, sadly not! I believe she would be around 3 months though, judging by her size. Maybe even a bit younger, but not much. She can MAYBE eat flies, but I'm not sure if they're too big for her, that's how small she is! She has a couple of flies with her now, I'll have to see if she eats them else...

Just got back from Hamm (Reptile Expo)...

Nope, no pictures were allowed :( Lots of signs saying such! Just imagine a crowded hall and having to "swim" through tons of people. It was also really warm, so it smelled. I would never want to go in the summer! I loved seeing all the animals, but I an completely exhausted from it. Chameleons...

Just got back from Hamm (Reptile Expo)...

Thank you! :) When I saw the picture of the elliot's from afar, my heart skipped a beat. They are REALLY hard to find and this was the only table that had them. I was hysterical and could not stop thanking the breeder for having them. I was just so happy!

    buying a new chameleon

I just bought a vivarium from mijupanthers ( http://chameleonworldmuji.co.uk/starter-kits/ ) and I must say, I am very happy with it! They are perfect for chameleons :) They are from the UK, so you won't have any trouble getting them to ship to you :D I can only recommend them! They're a bit...

Just got back from Hamm (Reptile Expo)...

...and found Marimo a girlfriend! Finally, after almost a year of searching. She's quite a dear :) Her name is Midori. We also had a bit of an unexpected and unintentional purchase... He's going into Yuki's old vivarium until he grows bigger ;) His name is Ryuu. I'd have liked to get...

    Yuki's (Veiled) & Marimo's (Elliot's) new pictures!

No worries, I am not comparing his size to Yuki's! I was comparing his size to that of his father. He's half his size :( It's not bad though, that makes him twice as awesome! Yes, Hamm is the plan. Driving in 9 and a half hours! ;) Thank you :) Yuki was a lot of work, but it was worth it...

    Yuki's (Veiled) & Marimo's (Elliot's) new pictures!

I figured it was about time I posted some more pictures of the two chameleons! After all, it's only been about a year since I last posted pictures... Yuki has grown bunches, both in size and in attitude. You can't even tell how she originally looked :D She looks tubby all the time, but really...
