Really neat design. For the door gap you could try adding a small wood strip for the door to close against to help prevent feeder escapes. You'd be surprised how small of a hole large crickets and other feeders can fit through lol. My big DIY cage had a little less than a 1/4" gap where the two...
Yeah I started by just marking the inches on the dowel with a sharpie but couldn't make the lines straight enough for my liking so I wound up using the zip ties instead to ease my OCD lol. I don't have any measurements or weights from when Thor first got here, just the ones that I posted earlier...
Senior engineering estimator for a big utility out here in CA. I do fielding, designs, and costing estimates for all kinds of gas reconstruction projects.
That's weird I bought mine direct from Mistking at the Sacramento Reptile Show and the rep told me to he sure not to do it that way or the pump will never shut off because it thinks it's supposed to run for 9 hours and 5 minutes instead of shutting off at 9:05. Not sure why yours or the OP's...
@Croninking did you double check the water lines are hooked up to the correct side of the pump? If it's running when turned on I'd think that rules out any wiring issues so maybe double check that. If not maybe post a photo of how you have it setup in case we can notice anything jumping out...
@SmithSe yeah that's something I've always tried to keep track of just for my own curiosity and making sure they aren't getting too fat lol. Thor's at about 6" snout to vent using my high tech, marked up wooden dowel in the picture.
Thanks :) Same here. He's only had one full body shed so far since he's been with me. Not sure if that's normal or not but at least our guys are the same there lol. Have you been keeping track of Boris's length at all?
Wow he's looking great. I'd love to let my OE, Thor, catch some natural sunlight but we've been having a lot of 100+ weather up here too and I wasn't sure if he'd do ok in that kind of heat...
I used small plastic totes from I think target that were maybe 8" deep x 10" wide x 16" long and then used a sand and soil mixture with around 1/3 organic potting soil and 2/3 sand. I drilled some drain holes at one end to let the excess moisture out but my misting schedule kept the bins moist...
I think it wound up being maybe a month or two but that was mainly because I was waiting for the breeder and dealing with a house remodel so I wasn't in a big hurry or anything. I'd think maybe 3-4 would be a good enough amount of time to make sure all the plants get settled and you can make...
It's been holding up great so far on the planter box I built and as long as you get the liquid version it's labeled as animal and aquarium safe in several places so I'm thinking it should be fine for our enclosures.
@Senior West It's doing great so far. The pothos has really exploded almost to the point where I'm going to have to start cutting it back. So far the soil and drainage seem to be working well and it hasn't turned in to a swampy mess like I was somewhat worried about when I was first setting...
Gotcha, I've always had my nozzles go through the screen and didn't realize the screen collected the water enough to create rain drops. Pretty neat idea I might have to try to make something similar when I move Thor in to his bigger cage. I've had a few basking bulbs explode due to overspray...
Depending on the size of the cage you can use a plastic dog crate liner or I've also used masonry mixing tubs from Home Depot which work really good if you're going bio-active or just want something more than an inch or so deep. I've also use liquid Flex Seal to coat the inside of a planter box...
I'm having a hard time seeing in the video but does the mist just go straight down in to the cage and then the overspray collects on the acrylic and drips/rains in to the cage? Really neat idea and I like how it turned out, just trying to make sure I'm understanding how it works in case I need...
Glad to hear you were able to confirm it's safety with them. I did a bunch of research on it not too long ago and saw that they listed it as animal safe on their website and found a bunch of other forums where people used it for koi ponds and custom aquariums so I went ahead and used it to line...
@shawn_melanson Stitch is looking great. I love his colors so far.
@SmithSe Dang Boris looks like he's doing great and putting on some good weight too. It's funny you ask/mention that, Thor's the same way. Some days he's an eager eater and other days he seems like he could care less. I've been...
