Newly arrived chameleon with weird burns or bruises.

Also wanted to mention the coloration thing. It’s pretty much what I would consider her stress colors 75% of the time. Her indoor enclosure is not near the other chameleons. So she has no line of sight with them. The only thing she can see is a fish tank with plants and guppies. As for the...

Newly arrived chameleon with weird burns or bruises.

If my chameleon has an egg binding issue, what can be done? My brother says warm water soaking can help, but I fear that is just more stress.

Newly arrived chameleon with weird burns or bruises.

About 1 month now? I asked how she was doing the other day. He says she appears to be showing receptive coloration again. Bright Reds and browns. Still eating and behaving normally according to him.

Yeah I explained to my brother that the bin was not adequate or that she was not comfortable in her enclosure. He has experience with chameleons, so his bin does meet the typical needs- but maybe her enclosure being near the ground outdoors she was trying to reach it and couldn’t. Just my guess.

Thank you for the great input Kinyonga! I appreciate you chiming in on this. the Mulch is actually called “garden soil” it’s a mixture of organic compost and soil. I had some on hand and figured it was more naturalistic and would work well for digging tunnels in. I mixed top soil in with it...

I hope you didn’t take it as though I meant that as good news. Only an observation. It’s bad that she layer them on the bottom of the cage. My brother takes very good care of his animals. He runs a wildlife rescue facility in Florida and has 15 years of experience with reptiles- both native and...

Also, I’ve seen my panther chameleons when they aren’t happy with their egg laying bin, they will spend a great deal of time wandering around the bottom of the cage. Digging at the corners or at the base of potted plants. My female oustalets isn’t doing any of that. She still spends most of her...

Newly arrived chameleon with weird burns or bruises.

Great posts, really appreciate the insight. I have read all of the links you have posted. Her colors fluctuate, sometimes she shows what seem to be gravid colors, other times she shows more stress colors- very light grey greens and whites with a mix of very dark black spots. I am watching her...

Newly arrived chameleon with weird burns or bruises.

Just wanted to give an update on my female oustalet’s status. I ended up taking her to the vet this past week. They confirmed it is a fungal infection- they prescribed oral Terbinafine, as well as doing silvadene for topical. They could not tell for sure if she is gravid- they think she is...

Thanks! This was a great article/blog. I wonder where all those babies ended up?

Newly arrived chameleon with weird burns or bruises.

I’ll definitely try to find good homes for any babies I end up having. the incubation period for them is a little long- 10-12 months from what I read. So maybe in a year I’ll have some babies that will need to branches? Lol

Yup! They’re found in an avocado grove near homestead Florida. I’ve been to the location with a biologist and wildlife rescue organization. We came up empty handed the last 2 times we went there. The rumors are that the population has been extirpated. Likely due to over collection from chameleon...

Thanks Kinyonga! I think you are right- the consensus is calling for a vet visit. I wondered fungal too- but year, seems weird it’s on both sides. Hopefully she is gravid and there is no damage to the eggs inside.

Photo update 2 of the gravid female and one of my other female who is not gravid- just for comparison. @kinyonga

Their care is more similar to panthers. Both are furcifer- and inhabit the same habitats in Madagascar. There are several wild established populations of panther chameleons in Florida. I have personally found them, and know of at least 2 locations. One location is over 50 years old. In the 1960s...

Newly arrived chameleon with weird burns or bruises.

I will post a couple more photos momentarily- I don’t personally have a male- but my brother does. the plan is to pair the females with his male and hopefully get a little breeding group going. sadly it doesn’t seem like many people are breeding them in the US- and with Madagascar closing...

Newly arrived chameleon with weird burns or bruises.

I’ve kept oustalets in the past. They’re great chameleons. They have huge appetites, get super big, and have a calm, docile demeanor. I agree. I think a wellness check may be in order. I’m always reluctant about taking WC chams to a vet. The process of being hailed around in a car, placed on an...

Newly arrived chameleon with weird burns or bruises.

Hi there all! Today i received a pair of mostly healthy looking female oustalets chameleons! Couldn’t be happier! One is a female who is possibly gravid. Upon pulling her out from the shipping container- I noticed she had large dark blotches on both sides of her body- lower side abdominal...

    Katydids

Hi everyone! I have been a member for a while now, but this is my first post. I breed and culture a number of bugs for my chams. I currently keep roaches- Blaberus sp. and some Panchlora giant sp. I also culture fruit flies and crickets on occasion. Lately I have been catching Katydids. I...
