Juliaf nailed it there. The only reason you should keep a young chameleon in a small cage is to know it ate enough food. Even then you can keep a small chameleon in a large enclosure if you cup feed it. Go ahead and put your cham in the new enclosure. He'll love the extra space :D
I know how you feel. My veiled is about 1 and a half years old and as they mature they become extremely aggressive. To me it's kinda like lizard "puberty". Mine has since calmed down a lot and I'm sure yours will too
